Tips For Cruising NCL

For this upcoming cruise on the Jewel to Alaska, I will be sailing with Mom and my girls. My girls will want to spend quite a bit of time in the kids' club, and my Mom will be in the casino which leaves me to do whatever I want. It's been a long time since I've had that kind of time for myself. What are the fun things to do on NCL?

Lounges, bars, pool, spa, food, music, shows, naps, casino, contests.....Just look at your daily. There is stuff going on non stop all over the ship. Enjoy your free time away from kids and family. Do what YOU want. its a vacation after all. If you cant find something to do on a cruise ship you're not trying very hard.

Is the daily delivered to your cabin? I may have to bring a highlighter with me. Sounds like I may not want to miss a thing!

Yes, your steward will leave it on your bed during turn down service.

If you have not sailed NCL before, pay attention to the "wheel" next to your door. It will turn from welcome, make up room, do not disturb and turn down service. Make use of that wheel so your steward understands what is needed.

Yes they deliver it to your cabin nightly. They will also have them at random places around the ship. You can also download the NCL app before you go and get the daily on your phone via the ship wifi even if you don't have the wifi package.

Also, there is a daily schedule even for your first day on the ship. I think some people miss that occasionally. Usually there are activities going on within minutes of them starting to let folks on the ship. Many of them are more "sales pitches" the first day (like at the spa...BUT, if that's of interest to you, go there, get the tour, sign up for drawings, etc.). So make sure you get the Freestyle Daily when you get on the ship (usually in a rack near guest services), and get that highlighter out! I think many people forget that once you're on the ship, the money you spent for the cruise starts paying off. Yes, it's fun to wander and get your bearings. Yes, I'm usually suddenly quite hungry and want to get food. But it sounds like you want to maximize your time...you can start right away!

As others have said, make sure you set the "wheel" by your door appropriately. If you forget to take off the "do not disturb" in the morning (I've done this more than once), you might get back to your cabin HOURS later and find that no one has made your bed. Bummer! And one of the great things for us IS the turn down service. Basically, you head off to dinner (and if you're like many folks, a show afterwards), and when you get back to your cabin later, your bed is made up, but ready to turn down and crawl in. The lighting is set at a lower level. Maybe a towel animal waiting for you. And the next day's newsletter. SO NICE!

In AK spend as much time as possible on deck just observing the scenery.
