Early Saver - Am I missing something?

Previous price tracking, research, and past feedback.

I’ve seen a few people here or there saying that the got price drops after final payment but never get a way to check it out. I suspect they paid too much in the beginning if that ever happens.

I don’t quite understand your point here.

Of course it was too high. Price is determined by demand. If the cruise is not selling then carnival cuts the price to sell more cabins.

I’m sure there is some actuary formula somewhere, but we don’t aren’t privy to it.

Also I’m sure what you mean by “no way to check it out”.

What are you looking for as proof?

Now, what I HAVE noticed is that the newer/ upgraded ships rarely have any significant reduction in price. I have a cruise booked on the glory in November. My price has only dropped about $25 overall since I booked last year and the ship is almost sold out. I don’t expect to have any more price drops.

My other cruise is on the Magic. my 4G lido 3 person dropped $200 AND I was able to upgrade to the deluxe OV (6L/M) for less than my original interior price. At one point before I switched to the OV, I was thinking of the spa interior cause it too was within reach of my initial price. At this point I think this sailing is on par with CCL booking expectations because the prices have stabilized.

If you book ES which is the lowest public rate, how can you pay too much? To be fair I cruise off season when it’s hard for the lines to sell cabins, so they always have to drop the fare to fill the ship. Plus I book 1a cabins as a solo,so there is more room for a price drop.

Just because you didn’t get an drop on your sailing, does t mean others have the same fate.

I’m not going to argue with people about this. Show me a cruise booked ES that has got a price drop AFTER final payment date.

I’m not talking about Military, Senior, Special Sale Rates, or Guarantees. I’m talking about booking an ES rate, having a cabin assignment at booking, and then having a price drop AFTER final payment while keeping the assigned cabin. Just doesn’t appear to happen.

If you disagree and will provide documentation/proof I would be very interested to hear about it. I think it is an ultra rare or non-existent thing. [emoji4]

I've been on 5 cruises and I would say I've had 3 of the 5 cruises drop prices after final payment on ES... one time we had several hundred dollars OBC.

tried attaching a screen capture of 3 receipts... time of booking, 4-5 days before the final payment (and already paid in full), and the day after final payment...

If I am looking at it correctly the price dropped $50 on March 2nd yet they gave you $100 OBC. What am I missing? What cabin throughout the process and on what ship?

I am looking at the Carnival Triumph for May 2019. I usually book close to sail date, never more than a year in advance. But, this is a NY to Panama Canal sailing and they aren't very frequent.

So...if I book ES or Casino rate....each one has a cancellation fee.

If I book Past Guest....no fee unless it's after final payment.

ES is only $20 more than Past Guest. Casino is $182 more (I'm talking total cost for 2 people).

If I have to do my own monitoring for price reductions....and there could be medical issues etc.....what would the benefit be of ES or Casino rates except to save just a few dollars? If the prices went down before final payment I could just cancel and rebook.

IMHO...this is a rare cruise and I can't see the prices going down.

Past guest is the best way.

I don’t understand your point. Pls explain.

If You book under ES the rate MUST drop under a special sale promotion after final payment for the Obc. After a certain time ES is no longer offered.

Are you asking if the Fun select rate ever goes down enough for a price drop.

All are valid rate codes and It happens all the time.

Patently false. Ok On Glory cruise coming up on May 19, I booked two cabins. One balcony for my wife and I and one OV for son and fiancee. Balcony cabin was past guest rate and OV was ES, cabin 2473.

TWICE, and both times AFTER final payment, I did a mock booking of cabin 2475 (which was still open) and found lower rates than what I paid for 2473. Both times carnival matched the price drop, no questions asked, using the online price protection form, and kept everything about the original booking, INCLUDING the cabin assignment. Twice in the span of several weeks.

Your assertion is not true at all.

What you’re “missing” is the retraction of your assertion that it does not happen. [emoji6]

(I’m just messing with you.)

By the way, the original price was $679pp, which dropped to $654pp, which dropped to $639pp. The first price drop of $25pp resulted in an OBC of $49.70 (30 cents got lost to some tax or fee), and the next drop resulted in a $30 OBC. As of today, their booking has a $79.70 OBC for ten minutes of my time.

Not March 7th, March 2nd. :)

What I didn't show was a price drop between time of booking and March 2. There was a first drop of $25/person which gave us $50. Then a 2nd on March 2nd that was another $25/person so another $50, or $100 total. Then a BIG ONE on March 7th (1 day after final payment) that amassed to the big OBC.

We pay up front alot of the times so they give OBC due to us "overpaying".

This is exactly what I do. I mock book rooms in the same category to find the overall price. Like you said, if you are quick and know what to click, takes 5 minutes to save money. I do it as part of my daily routine of starting work each day.

I check 2x a day. I’ve seen prices change in a day.

I only check about once a week. I can't believe there are people that think ES fares never go down after final payment without dropping into a guarantee.

Apparently I'm wrong about this. :)

Although I still wonder how frequently this occurs. :)

For us, it doesn't matter how frequently (or infrequently) it occurs. If they want to put money back into our pocket, or OBC on our accounts, we're going to do our best to take advantage of the opportunity.

We got a price reduction a month before the final payment date. Since then we've seen our category sell out, reopen with only 1-2 cabins, sell out, and reopen again with several cabins. Some of this occurring after the final payment date. The current "Spring Sale" promotion isn't less than what we're paying now (after our Feb. price drop), but it's $30/pp less than our original rate. So if we had missed that Feb. price drop, we'd still get a $120 price reduction after final payment with the current spring sale. It pays to keep checking.

Well seeing as how in a matter of hours you've gotten two people, one with two price drops on a single cabin, and one with THREE, I'm willing to bet it's more frequent than your second claim of "ultra rare" and significantly more frequent than your original claim of "never".

I always book past guest because of cancellation. Who knows what could happen in 385 days. I may also find a cruise or vacation I like better. If there are still rooms in my category around the 100 day mark, I call and switch to ES.
