goldengirl123 Posted April 30, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2018 The Maasdam has come up with a new and very unique itinerary called the NEW EXC IN DEPTH VOYAGE. It begins September 10 2018 and finishes in May 2019 (239 DAYS or passengers can chose to book various segments of this cruise). I was wondering if any knows the plans for the Maasdam AFTER the 239 day voyage. It looks like another large voyage is being planned beginning mid July 2019 up until September 2019 but nothing beyond this.
Rare 3rdGenCunarder Posted April 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 30, 2018 There are three Alaska cruises in May and June 2019, then Maasdam starts the long journey you mention in July.
OlsSalt Posted April 30, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 30, 2018 One assumes HAL will need to re-evalute this major change in direction for these InDepth cruise offerings after a good first trial run. We are on their first one (Kontiki Explorer) so it will be interesting on many levels since we now know HAL traditional cruising so well - what in fact changes, compared to their other long-term theme cruises like Voyage of the Vikings and Tales of the South Pacific which already are fairly high in onboard enrichment and local entertainment offerings. We were big fans of the very high enirchment-low frills Voyages of Discovery ships when they used to run, so we will be comparing these new InDepth HAL cruises to that former cruise explorer alternative. I'm interested in doing one of the 3-week Alaska itineraries, so I'll be looking for comments and reviews once the new style of Maasdam cruises begins. HAL says less of the usual entertainment and more enrichment, and I hope that turns out to be true.
goldengirl123 Posted May 2, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted May 2, 2018 The Maasdam itineraries are presently scheduled until September 2019, but I noticed that they are scheduled with the Port Authority to be in Sydney a couple of days each month from October 2019 to February 2020. Perhaps , as mentioned by OlsSalt, they have these ports booked tentatively until they see how the sales go for the first 239 day segment.
