Carnival Sunshine

After a lot of looking, researching and mock bookings, we have decided for our next cruise we are going to do the 8 day Eastern Caribbean on the Sunshine out of PC in late April next year. We considered the Breeze, the Magic, the Conquest, but ultimately decided on the Sunshine for the date, itinerary, PC is closer than Ft L, and all it has to offer. The Magic came pretty close, but we are getting the same number of days and itinerary for around the date we wanted and again it's a shorter drive (we don't fly). I do have a question before booking though.

We are looking at Ocean view cabins on deck 5 (Promenade) it looks like a good location with easy elevator access for MIL and with quick morning walk to the coffee bar for us (coffee addicts) it's not on the bottom, and we are figuring we can do OV this time since it's a couple hundred cheaper and we really didn't use our balcony that much last time, but still like having a window. Has anyone here ever stayed in one of these cabins? If so, how was it?

I stayed in #5335, and it was a pretty good room, good space, liked having the couch. Honestly the Sunshine was one of our best trips, a lot of people think shes over crowed, oddly spaced but we did never found it an issue; we almost had another cruise on her but ended up with the Horizon this coming July. Check out my review in my signature for my full report on her.

My daughter recently stayed in one of the inside cabins on deck 5 aft and loved the location. Movement wasn't bad either.

Thanks! :)

I stayed in one of the inside cabins on deck 5 for New Years. It was an amazing location. Close to everything! They also serve breakfast just outside the staterooms near the Alchemy bar.

I saw in the pictures it looked like some kind of buffet thing right there, so that is awesome! Thanks! :)

deck 5 location is our favorite. so convenient to everything. we were in an interior in February for the eastern Caribbean, and have an aft balcony booked for November to the southern Caribbean. it will be our 4th cruise on sunshine and we have always enjoyed it.

Booked deck 5 on my upcoming sunshine cruise #5307 Oceanview. Pretty excited to be close to the bars /casino. :)

Are you sailing out of PC or Charleston? I wanted to wait until May and go out of Charleston since it's less than a couple hours away, but unfortunately there was only short cruises to the Bahamas then, and we're in no hurry to go back to Nassau or Freeport. So, off to FLA again! :D

I don't know if it was because of it being the summer season, but Carnival would not let my Husband and get one of the OV cabins on Deck Five. Only groups of four could get those cabins.

ditto the New cabins on Deck Three. Same thing but I did get one for my daughter which had a 3 person capacity.

We have a balcony , and I like it, but it cost a lot more.

We have 17 cruises on Carnival and that was the first time we Had to get cabin for two. Could not get any other kind. . Is that routine in the Summer?

They told us that there is a possibility we could be moved if the ship fills up and they need a 4 person cabin, which I could see them needing in summer with all the families, but being in late April, there's a possibility we may not be moved with a lot of the kiddies still being in school at that time. IDK, it's kind of a crap shoot.

I understand that, I really liked the ease of sailing out of Charleston, but want to do some different ships and itineraries for a bit, but if we like the Sunshine next year, we'll be very tempted to do one of the 5 day to Cuba cruises out of Charleston in 2020 :D

  • 2 months later...

I've booked our first Carnival cruise on the Sunshine out of Charleston 3/30/20.

We've only cruised twice and both were with RCCL.

I'm really looking forward to this cruise and I was wondering if anyone has any opinion on the shows and teen activities?

The shows are the same as across most of the Carnival fleet - we don’t care for Hasbro but don’t mind some of the music ones. Comedy and piano bar are really the better entertainment on Carnival.

My sons were a tween and teen on Sunshine and loved it. The Sportsquare is the best in the fleet and the kids are either there, at the pool or strolling the promenade.

Do they always serve breakfast there?

Everyday we walked by they at least had a continental put.

But I have to say the the new breakfast menu for port days and the different one for sea day brunch have so many great options we never mess with Lido or Deck 5 except for a small snack with early coffee.
