Rare kjquilts Posted May 30, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2018 If this turns out to be true it would be nice if NCL would stop selling Jade cruises that cover this time period. Looks very bad for those booked on the 10 and 11 day Greek Isle and Italy cruises on the Jade in August 2019. We're booked on the Jade for 14 night October 24th and have been waiting to see if a transatlantic follows ..... may book a back up cruise just in case our cruise goes away. Here is link to announcement from Sixthman CEO's announcement of "Sixthman Goes to Europe" ..... sorry link isn't clickable. http://blog.sixthman.net/blog/2018/5/29/europe
Hampton99 Posted May 30, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2018 Can anyone who has experience with charters cancelling a trip let me know their thoughts on this. I think it is strange that a three night cruise would interrupt a ten night and an eleven nights cruise. The only experience I have with charters is them taking over a portion of the ship not completely changing the itinerary. The home port is now Barcelona and not Rome. Big difference in my opinion. Ncl is still selling the 10 and 11 night cruises. What have people experienced in the past with ncl make as big a change as this. Do you think they will cancel completely or change the dates? We were really looking for this itinerary and if that is what changes we will need to look elsewhere. I understand it is a year out and anything can change but to get the rooms we need for our group of eight we need to book in advance. Thanks for your help. Linda the Book Lover Posted May 30, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2018 Can anyone who has experience with charters cancelling a trip let me know their thoughts on this. I understand it is a year out and anything can change but to get the rooms we need for our group of eight we need to book in advance. Thanks for your help. Recently we had a Pacific Coastal cruise on the Pearl canceled. The cruise would have taken place on October 1st of this year. The 9-day cruise offered never materialized, we lost our money on airfare ($270 - our fault for booking non-refundable and not adding air to our insurance as NCL only covered change fee which we had no plans to fly anywhere), and NCL was a nightmare to deal with during the entire process. They then tried after the 9-day did not show up, tried to get us to book on the Bliss for almost twice the price. I already had a POA cruise booked with my DD and DGD and I did not wish to disappoint them so we are going. The DH and I took our money from the cancelation and booked a different cruise with a different cruise line. Then my DD wanted to cruise NCL for her birthday next year-so we booked it. I no longer have the trust I once had with NCL based on the cancellation drama. Keep in mind everyone has a different experience with cancellation and NCL is not alone in cruise ships booking a charter for the whole ship after you plan your cruise. Some are successful in rebooking and all is well. I would not worry about it. I am Platinum and this was the first time a cruise was cancelled. IMPORTANT: CANCELLED SAILING INFORMATION Date: 01/09/2018 Dear Valued Guests and Travel Partners, Norwegian Cruise Line has important information for you regarding Norwegian Pearl's 5-Day Pacific Coastal sailing from Vancouver on October 1, 2018. All guests booked on this sailing need to be aware of this change and travel professionals are asked to forward this information to their clients. Because of a scheduling change the Pearl's 5-Day Pacific Coastal sailing departing on this date is no longer available. Norwegian is offering guests currently booked and fully deposited on this sailing the following options: - Option 1: Move to the new 9-Day sailing departing on October 1, 2018 and receive a 10% discount off the cruise fare for the sailing. - Option 2: Move to any available sailing in our fleet at the current published fare and your deposit will be applied towards the new sailing date. If you choose this option and are booked in an Inside, Oceanview, Balcony or Mini-Suite a $25 onboard credit will be applied to your onboard account. If you are currently booked in a suite (categories beginning with S or H) you will receive a $50 per stateroom onboard credit. Onboard credits can be used on any expenditure on the ship excluding service charges. Norwegian will also cover up to $300 maximum per person air change fees. We look forward to hearing from you by January 22, 2018, so that we can modify your reservation. If we don't hear from you by January 22, 2018, your reservation will be cancelled. We are standing by to assist you on our dedicated support line at (877) 461-1160 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm ET Monday through Friday. For any guests booked outside of the US/Canada please visit www.ncl.com for our local contact information in handling your reservation. We thank you for choosing Norwegian Cruise Line and we look forward to assisting you. littlelulu01 Posted May 30, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 30, 2018 According to Sixthman website they are announcing other charters for the Jade med soon. They are presently selling just the one August charter and Ncl is selling the 10&11 night cruise that obviously conflict with the charters that Sixthman is selling. It’s a really tough deal to get your sailing pulled. Especially since usually by the time a sailing is canceled the alternative options pricing has skyrocketed. Sometimes Ncl shows they value customers by offering price protection on an alternative date(s). Nothing screams don’t let the door hit you on the way out more than the $25/$50 for rebooking another sailing at twice the price. Very simple solution- pad a little extra into the charter pricing in order to give a valid good will offer to displaced passengers. Ncl definitely is the leader in the charter business and the Pearl and Jade are the ships typically used.
Hampton99 Posted May 30, 2018 #7 Share Posted May 30, 2018 Thanks for the info on your cancelled cruise. I find it crazy they are still selling the cruise with conflicting itineraries. Also considering it is August in the Mediterranean you would think it is a popular cruise which will easily sell and does not need to be a charter. Still wondering if the Italy Greek cruise will be cancelled or the dates will be adjusted. I think with Barcelona being the embarkation point instead of Rome the entire itinerary will change. I believe Sixthman is an NCL partner company that is used for Music Cruises. From the Sixthman announcement linked in post #2 of this thread it looks like they are going to bring their Music Festivals at Sea to Europe starting with the four night The Boaty Weekender cruise out of Barcelona August 8 - 12, 2019 on the Norwegian Jade. Their statement says that soon "more immersive music festivals at sea out of Barcelona in August 2019" will be announced. The Jade August 2019 10 and 11 day itineraries are also being sold for September and October 2019 followed by the wonderful 14 day itinerary we're booked on starting October 24, 2019. Many of us on the roll call thread are hoping for a Jade transatlantic announcement (with a good itinerary :)) to follow our cruise. If NCL would release their plans for the Jade it would make vacation planning much easier.
rigs32 Posted June 9, 2018 #9 Share Posted June 9, 2018 Sixthman charters are typically full ship. On very rare occasions a full charter became a partial charter later on when it didn’t sell well, but I know if that happening only 2 or 3 times since 2013 when I took my first Sixthman Cruise.
