Gadgetgirl135 Posted June 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2018 :confused: Sailing Noordam, Alaska August 5th. Looking for excursion recommendations for Haines, Juneau and Ketchikan. Nothing extreme but don’t want to just sit on a bus looking at scenery.
OlsSalt Posted June 19, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2018 JUNEAU: We enjoyed the three part Mendenhall Glacier excursion that included Juneau's very lovely historical museum and the Arctic Garden walk with snack, along with time to walk out to viewing sites at the glacier itself and the informative visitors center. This was an afternoon tour so we still had time to explore Juneau itself on our own in the morning and see the state house and old Russian Orthodox church. KETCHIKAN - This is a walkable town on your own but this time we took the local bus out to Totem Bight State Park and highly recommend doing this on your own too - still plenty of time to explore the rest of the town on your own too. Gorgeous rain forest walks at Totem Bight and a chance to see a collection magnificent totem poles up close. HAINES: not been there but this stop gets very good reviews and sounds like another do it your self small port stop.

Paulinda Posted June 19, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 19, 2018 agree with OlsSalts, Juneau - Mendenhall Glaciar was good but there is some easy hiking involved. We did the excursion from the ship but there are less expensive means of getting there. Ketchikan is an easy walkable town. We did our own thing there and it was enjoyable enough. Enjoy! Nothing extreme but don’t want to just sit on a bus looking at scenery. In Juneau, we loved the floatplane tour over Glacier National Park. It’s amazing to see it from the air. Then we landed by a remote lodge for a delicious salmon bake and a hike to a beautiful waterfall. In Ketchikan, we enjoyed the all you can eat crab boil and boat tour to the crab pots. And we had time to tour Creek Street and pick up a little colorful history. Sent from my iPad using Forums

knittinggirl Posted June 20, 2018 #8 Share Posted June 20, 2018 For Juneau, we liked the photo safari, and the gold creek salmon bake. For Ketchikan, we liked the misty fjords wilderness explorer cruise. Sent from my iPad using Forums
WisRiver Posted June 20, 2018 #9 Share Posted June 20, 2018 In Juneau a whale watching tour was the highlight of our day. Despite a cool misty day, the whales were not bothered. Our excursion privately booked though Alaska Whale Watch included a side trip to Mendenhal Glacier.
