Earlier this week CCL stock price declined 9% in one day, resulting in some discussion here and around the interwebs as to the cause of the price decline (because Carnival did away with tablecloths, duh!) and whether this was a good time to purchase the stock.

This article came across my feed this morning and I thought it was a good explanation in layman’s terms so I thought I would share.

"Hedging" fuel prices involves buying futures contracts on commodities which is a risky business if you know anything about commodity trading.

It is a conservative idea to stay away from doing that.

BTW Carnival wasn't the only stock down that day. The whole market was way down including other cruise lines. Really funny to read that some folks thought it had anything to do with tablecloths!!!
