Talk to me about NCL Bermuda cruise...

Recommended Posts

We’ve been to Bermuda a few times. We actually had two Bermuda cruises scheduled last year. One from New York and one from New Jersey. This link give you an idea of what’s available on the ship (this year the Breakaway’s sister ship is doing the itinerary) https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2504449

We did horseshoe bay. There are shuttles right on the dock that take you all the way to the beach ($7 per person each way). You can catch a public bus, but it drops you at the top of “heart attack hill” which you need to climb down/up.

We caught the public ferry ($4.50 per person each way) over to Hamilton. And we did an island tour to see the island.

Also did the Harbor Nights festival in Hamilton. (wedesday night).

Lots to do in three days.

Our second cruise to Bermuda last year ended up in Halifax running from a Hurricane.

Great review! How much did you pay for an island tour? Pp?

We live in the greater Boston area and have done this cruise several times and enjoyed it every time , The problem is for what ever reason it has become very expensive.

It's crazy how much the price has gone up over the years on this cruise. I last sailed the Dawn to Bermuda 6 years ago and I'm paying 80% more now for the same cabin. I don't think cruise demand in Boston has gone up that much!? Oh well.

there really isn't anything different to do there than any other island. Jet skiing, cat sailing, scenic tours the same as any other island. Bermuda is much more upscale and British cultured and as such makes for a very pleasant visit. Stores, shopkeepers, taxi drivers everyone you can think of is polite and well spoken. No hawking crap at the dock or on the streets. Visit Hamilton, see the nice homes, enjoy a drive around the island and then it's beaches are some of the best. If you take it for what it is, a vacation island beach resort, it's one of the tops. It's also great staying over those days, easy entry and exit from ship whenever you want, no rushing about worrying about missing ship. So the ship and the island present your best "no worries" vacation.

Ok, after reading this thread, I'm considering a cruise to Bermuda...something I hadn't considered because

1. I'm not sure if the casino is open at night while the ship is in port and

2. I've always had the impression that Bermuda is oppressively hot

Can anyone speak to either of these?

CM

Bermuda was 10 degrees cooler than NY today! Not that Im obsessively watching in anticipation of my trip there in Sept (ok I am...;p)

I've been to Bermuda probably eight times. I love it. I usually rent a moped. It's such a great way to see the island! It takes some getting used to, as they drive on the opposite side of the road, have lots of roundabouts and tons of buses! We always go to Horseshoe Bay but walk all the way to the left when we get there, through the little cove. It's virtually deserted over there! I've done Harbor Nights before. It was fine but I don't feel the need to go again.

We will be going on our second trip to Bermuda in Sept on the Escape and we are really looking forward to it. I bought a Bermuda travelers guide on Amazon and am doing more research this time around. There is plenty to do, and its pretty easy to get around from what I've heard. We will be planning to eat on the boat however, as it is pricey to do so on the island. Here is an idea of our itinerary so far:

Day 1 - St George via ferry - St Peters, Unfinished Church & Museum

Day 2 - Crystal Caves

Day 3 - Aquarium

All accessible via public transport pass!

We are on the same cruise in Sept, Just 8 of us over 40 Parrot Heads from the Jersey shore and Boston,

Can't answer regarding casino as we don't gamble but as much as I love, love, love Bermuda it was extremely hot. We went the end of July and it would probably be very hot wherever we went. When we go again, and we will, we will probably explore St. Georges more and spend the rest of our time at the beaches.

We love Bermuda! The first time on the Breakaway and the second time on the Dawn. Can't wait to go back again. The first time we did the buses and ferries. It took a while to get around, but it was a great way to see the scenery. The second time we the four of us rented scooters, which I know is dangerous and highly discouraged, but we had a great time. I would never recommend it unless you are used to riding a bike and driving on the other side of the road. Plus it rained the whole time, so we got quite wet. But that didn't stop us. It was so relaxing not having to rush back to the ship. We did the caves, the original Swizzle Inn, beaches, and if you are weird like we are, we walked to the graveyard that is close to the dockyard at night and walked through it.

I think the ship casino is open in port at night? I believe this was made legal a while ago. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

As of 2015, they started letting the Casinos open at night. At least if docked at Royal Navy Dockyard. Bermuda is about the same latitude as North Carolina so can be hot in summer but mild winters.

We are leaving for our 2nd cruise to Bermuda this weekend, we're so excited! Last time we took the ferry to Hamilton the first day - toured the city and Fort Hamilton. The second day the ferries were on strike so we took the bus to Horsehoe Bay, it was beautiful but packed! Our last day we hung around the Dockyard and did the museums close by, it was raining so we didn't go to the beach there. We spent a lot of time at the Frog and Onion Pub near the ship. We also found the sister restaurant in Hamilton, The Pickled Onion. The staff at both places were amazing! We went in September, Hamilton Nights was not happening.

For this trip, we hope to get into St George, Crystal Cave, Hamilton Nights, Thursday night beach party at the Dockyard (Club Aqua?). We are avid outdoors people so we would love to rent push bikes and bike the old railroad trail.

We are going back to Bermuda for the 6th time. All on NCL, we absolutely love it there. It's our daughters favorite island and they have been to quite a few. There is more than enough to do, we wish we could stay longer. Our first trip there in 2004 we did an island tour, so worth it. It really gives you a feel for the island and highlights places you might want to visit. The first few cruises our DD's were young so we did the crystal caves, Hamilton, Aquarium etc.. Now that they are 19 and 24 all they want is BEACH! We agree 100%. Horseshoe Bay is our favorite beach we have ever been to. We usually run off the ship right to Horseshoe Bay and stay as late as we can. 2nd day we take the ferry to St. Georges, the oldest town on Bermuda, cobblestone streets, unfinished church, shops and museums. We walk around there and then get a taxi to Tobacco Bay, small beach but amazing snorkeling and a great island vibe. Music and great food. There is just so much to see. Kings Wharf is beautiful with shops, rum factory, glass blowing, beaches and restaurants. We usually walk around right before we sail away. We are leaving August 10th on the Dawn out of Boston back to Bermuda for my 50th. :D:D:D:) If I can answer any questions I will try my best. Whatever you choose, Happy Cruising!!!
