CotswoldsRetreat Posted July 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2018 Hi All I can't information anywhere that lists the opening times of the restaurants on Marella Discovery. Anyone out there know - and while I am at it can you just turn up any time without having to go at a specific sitting time. And one other thing - are there plenty of tables for two. Not that we unsociable but when eating like this we prefer our own company. Cheers.
Rare dronnygirl Posted July 22, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2018 MDR 7 to 9 am and 6 to 9pm You can request a table for 2 but there may be a wait at busy times. Same applies to Gallery 47 Italian restaurant. The Glass House us open 6.30 to 9.3pm for tapas and pizza, we didn't try this but was told it was very nice for a change. Surf and Turf and LoriLa 6.30 to 9.30pm and these are payable. Hope this helps

campolady Posted July 22, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2018 Hi All I can't information anywhere that lists the opening times of the restaurants on Marella Discovery. Anyone out there know - and while I am at it can you just turn up any time without having to go at a specific sitting time. And one other thing - are there plenty of tables for two. Not that we unsociable but when eating like this we prefer our own company. Cheers. We were on Discovery in May. During our cruise dining times were:- MDR '47 degrees' 6 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. 'Gsllery 47' (Italian restaurant above 47) 6.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. Surf and Turf 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. Not sure about buffet or Kora La opening times as we didn't use them. Breakfast times varied depending on port arrival time. We always had a table for 2; we tend to eat early then go for the first theatre show and only waited for a table for 2 twice out of 12 days - were given a buzzer and were called back within 10 minutes each time. shot2bits Posted July 23, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 23, 2018 Don’t mean to hijack this thread but it’s not so much the opening times that bother me but the standard of food. We have been on more than a dozen cruises, many with Thomson and never had any complaints but I am reading about standards having slipped. Not on this forum but on the one that starts with Face! If it is to be believed, the food on Discovery 2 is not as good as it was. Even in gallery 47, which on Discovery, we really enjoyed. By the way, we always opt for a table for two and certainly on Discovery we never had to wait more than ten minutes. Vitalsign Posted July 23, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 23, 2018 We were on Discovery 2 April and end of June/July and the food was great in both restaurants and also in the buffet - what people had to complain about I've no idea All was better than on Celebration in January and Dream in May but even then nothing to complain about Thomson Spirit Oct 2005 Repo Palma to Sharm el Sheikh Thomson Celebration Jan 2007 Red Sea Magic Ocean Village Feb 2008 Western Caribbean & Central America Ocean Village Aug 2008 Eastern Med Ocean Village 2 Feb 2009 Eastern Caribbean Ocean Village Mar 2010 Eastern Caribbean Thomson Dream Feb 2011 Eastern Caribbean & Cuba Thomson Celebration Aug 2011 Eastern Med Thomson Celebration Apr 2012 Red Sea Magic Thomson Celebration Apr/May 2012 Repo Sharm el Sheikh to Marmaris Thomson Dream Feb 2013 EasternCaribbean Thomson Majesty Nov/Dec 2014 Colourful Coasts Canaries Thomson Dream Jan/Feb 2015 Western Caribbean Panama & Cuba Thomson Dream Apr 2015 Transatlantic Sunset Thomson Majesty June 2015 Hellenic Classics Thomson Celebration Sept 2015 Adriatic Affair Thomson Dream Jan 2016 Mayan Treasures/Cuban Revolution Thomson Dream April 2016 Atlantic Adventure Thomson Dream June 2016 Iconic Islands/Adriatic Explorer Thomson Celebration Jan 2017 Cities of Gold Thomson Dream April2017 Atlantic Daydream Thomson Spirit June 2017 Classical Greece Thomson Majesty Sept2017 Med Medley/Treasures of Med MarellaCelebration Jan 2018 Caribbean Gems/Coral Islands Marella Discovery 2 April 2018 Cuban Fusion MarellaDiscovery 2 April 2018 Atlantic Discoveries Marella Dream May 2018 Spanish Delights Marella Discovery 2 June 2018 Aegean Meze MarellaDream Sept 2018 Mediterranean Medley

Vitalsign Posted July 23, 2018 #9 Share Posted July 23, 2018 We always opted for a table for 2 except in June and also if we had to wait it wasn't very long In fact the longest was 30mins when there were four of us but we sat and had a drink in the Atrium and were given a buzzer for when our table was ready - should say this was at peak time between 7.30 and 8.30 - The cruise news advises on the busiest times and suggests eating earlier or later if you do not want to wait but we enjoyed our aperitif and were entertained by a pianist/saxophonist while waiting
cruiser man 60 Posted July 24, 2018 #10 Share Posted July 24, 2018 We were are end of June and the standard of food in both restaurants was very good although I would say the choice is fairly limited compared to what you expect on lines like NCL or RCL. The buffet is particularly poor on choices. We do try the Tapas restaurant and it was very good for a nice change. The restaurants do get very busy at times and sometimes the wait was 45 minutes but with included drinks it's no problem!
