Transport MIA - FFL/Port Everglades, plus any hotel recommendations pre-cruise

Despite cruising for many, many years and sailings from Port Canaveral and San Juan this is our first cruise from FFL. We fly into MIA the day prior arriving at around 2.30pm. We've previously stayed in the Miami area but would prefer to stay closer to FFL on this occasion.

Are you able to use Uber at MIA. If so, is there a designated meeting area or collection from the main collection/departure area.

Does anyone have any other transfer suggestions?

Best place to stay. Is it worth staying at a hotel in the Hollywood area to shorten the transfer then complete journey the next morning or should we just get to FFL to make things easier next morning?

There are dozens of threads down the board on transfers. Shuttles are commonly recommended. Yes, you can use Uber.

There are also dozens of threads here on hotels. "Best" is an incredibly vague term, and means many different things to many people. But the 17th St area is very commonly recommended. It has several hotels, restaurants, stores, just about everything people want or need.

By the way FFL is Fairfield Iowa. You won't find any cruise ships departing from there. You want FLL- Ft Lauderdale, Fl.

Yes, you can use Uber at Miami and it's probably the easiest airport in the world for Uber, too. When coming out of baggage claim, look at the big door number. On Uber, you will be asked for that door number. Put that in and voila. No special meeting area at all. Walk out to the middle median area and keep an eye out for your Uber. Door numbers are also on the columns outside.

I'm not sure how far you think the distance is between FLL and MIA, but it's about 30 minutes. You definitely don't need to shorten the trip by stopping in Hollywood. By the way, It's Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport....

It's as trivial as can be and as a local, we use Miami or Fort Lauderdale airports interchangeably. Whichever has the better flight is where we go since the distance between the two is so close. We recommend the same for cruisers. It really doesn't matter which airport you use. Land, grab your stuff, hop in and Uber and go to your hotel in Fort Lauderdale.

You can also take the tri-rail. (Train)

$5 from MIA airport to Fort Lauderdale stop any day. $5 MIA to FLL weekends $3.75 MIA to FLL weekdays.

http://www.tri-rail.com

FLL train stop has a free shuttle from train stop to FLL airport.

Fort Lauderdale stop also has a free shuttle to goes different places in Lauderdale. You can see on their website. If you get off at Fort Lauderdale stop easier to just uber from train station to your hotel.

Does anyone have any other transfer suggestions? http://www.sunny.org has lots of FLL area hotel and tourist info

Stay in the FLL area - we like hotels in the downtown/17th street area with lots of nearby dining and shopping options. Budget and dates would help the suggestions to be closer to your target - the $300+ room in Feb can go for about $100 in Aug.

Thank you everyone. It’s a 9hr flight from LRH although the train looks ideal outbound I think we’ll take Uber as we may be a bit weary by then but maybe look to catch the train post cruise. We cruised from Seattle this year the Uber collection point sounds very similar to SEA. I’m really grateful for input from those who have made a similar transfer. Thank you.
