knittinggirl Posted August 19, 2018 #26 Share Posted August 19, 2018 (edited) Depending on where you're coming from, you'll have at least one time change. On our first AK cruise, we had two hours just getting to the embarkation port, and one more on day 2. We were about your age on our first Alaska cruise. We were in bed by 8 pm each night. And we discovered our dining companions were in bed the same time. I guess three hours or more for them is what did it. But if you don't want to sleep that early, there's also nice scenery going by. Remember, the longer daylight period up there! Enjoy the multi-generational cruise. We did something similar w/ my parents, sis and her kids for their 50th. Had a blast! I'd try the Crow's Nest for a nice view w/ a drink. I think you may be able to get a specialty coffee w/ some type of liquor. I believe they have both in the Crow's Nest. Going through the Inside Passage or Tracy Arm, they may even have some drink specials. We had several specials in Milford Sound (which is a lot further south). knittinggirl Posted August 19, 2018 #27 Share Posted August 19, 2018 One of the great things about Eurodam is it has interactive TV, you can choose movies and TV shows on demand. Did you have those giant wall mounted TV screens? We got them in Neptune Suite with on demand shows on the Nieuw Amsterdam. Loved not having to return those old DVDs. We watched more movies on the eleven days on the Nieuw Amsterdam than the entire 38-days on Noordam. We've booked an 18-day Hawaii on Eurodam in 2020, so I'm understandably interested! Herfnerd Posted August 20, 2018 #28 Share Posted August 20, 2018 Wife and I are 56 and 53 respectively. While this isn't our first cruise, it was our first on HAL when we sailed the Eurodam to Alaska last September. While it is an older demographic, you will be on the younger but not youngest side. You'll find plenty to do
Langham1865 Posted August 20, 2018 #29 Share Posted August 20, 2018 I am 46, Platinum on NCL and just got off my first HAL cruise, which was the Eurodam out of Seattle to Alaska. Although they do not have as many nighttime activities as NCL, BB King and Billboard are both open typically late than 11 when they have music. BB King is most nights, both venues were great for music. Keep in min that although I am not old and usually up until 1-2 am on NCL cruises, this has more early ports than I am used to so generally wasn't up much past 11 when they had the early port. Some of them are fairly shot, so if you wan to do an excursion and see the town, plan accordingly. And Alaska is the main attraction on this cruise. If you like food, try Tamarind (Asian) and Pinnacle Grille (steak & seafood) Also make an effort to go to Tamarind bar during daylight, great views to sit and relax. Let me know if you have any questions about the ship and itinerary! HAVE FUN!!!

Alaska Sail Posted August 20, 2018 #31 Share Posted August 20, 2018 I just returned from an Alaska cruise on the Eurodam on Saturday. There are many options for after dinner entertainment. There is a show on the main stage at both 8 pm and 10 pm. Outside of the casino, they have billboards on board - a set of dualing pianos who did three s hows a night. These two piano players/singers were the best. We spend alot of nights here having cocktails and listening to their shows. The BB King club is another great option for music. And there are multiple lounge type bars to hang out in. I am same age as you and we were out past 11 most nights. Though I will warn you, most days we were up quite early so by Wednesday/Thursday night it begins to catch up with you. Have a great time! You will love the Eurodam and Alaska is spectacular!
