Sunshine2020 Posted August 26, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2018 Can anyone tell me what the weather is like leaving L.A. and going to Hawaii in November? I know what the weather is like in Hawaii, but what about onboard? Is it cold? Is there any sunbathing? How to dress? Thanks in advance.
SRF Posted August 26, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2018 Look at temps in LA. Look at temps in Hawaii. On board will vary from one to the other during the cruise. But it is also a long stretch, so local weather along the route will change. You could have sun, you could have clouds, you could have rain, it could be cool, it could be warm. But typically it will be between the departure and destination.
paul929207 Posted August 26, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 26, 2018 We have done this in October. We have found that it tends to be cool the first 1 1/2 to 2 days out of LA. It warms up as we have approached Hawaii.
Grandma Dazzles Posted August 26, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 26, 2018 Definitely layers. It got warmer the closer we got to Hawaii. There was usually a cool wind blowing on deck especially for the first few days.
pseudoware Posted August 26, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2018 Not a bad idea to include in your layers a waterproof shell or other rain outerwear, preferably something thin for greater climate flexibility. Heidi13 Posted August 26, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 26, 2018 Winter weather for the first couple of days can be unpredictable. You should experience NE trade winds most of the route to Hawaii, which should provide lower wind across the deck. Opposite applies on the return. Temperature, depend on what you consider normal. We like to winter in SoCal from coastal BC, so find the temperatures very comfortable around LA. You can google average temps, but in Nov we have experienced everything from high 60's to mid 80's - at sea you can normally expect averages to be a little lower. Best advice is to bring layers and a rain jacket for the wet days. If the weather gets cooler, some ships have a covered pool area.
