Grand Turk snorkel in January & February, 2019

Read some mixed reviews about snorkeling here. We are going twice on a cruise and wondering if it’s worth doing a private snorkel excursion? We prefer smaller groups rather than the cruise ships.

We are doing the ABC islands as well and booked snorkel for there so wondering if we should just relax in Grand Turk or snorkel from a boat excursion.

Thank you for any thoughts on this.

If you're a snorkel enthusiast, you owe it to yourself to snorkel off the "Wall" in GT.

There are 3 good snorkel operators in GT (plus some smaller diving operators that can do snorkel tours) and you can go up to Bohio Resort at Pillory Beach north of Cockburntown and hire a smaller boat there, if available.

IIRC, Oasis Divers handles the ship snorkeling excursions, But you can book smaller boats via Blue Water Divers or Grand Turk Diving.

Thank you for your reply. The two smaller independent snorkel excursion companies were ones I was looking at. I was wondering about “the wall” and if it would be worth the time in January or February which is when we will be there. (One cruise with a friend, the other with husband, son and dil).

I may post on our roll call and see if anyone else is interested in January-that way I could see if worth it for us when we go in February.

Thanks again for your input. Appreciate it. I have read where taxis are easy to get to both the independent excursions-hopefully that is still correct.

There is also Exclusive Escapes and White Sands, located only 200 yards down the beach from the ship. Seems pretty easy to get to. I am still undecided if I will take one of those or the ships tour, they go to same 2 snorkel sites. Ships tour is a few dollars cheaper but I'm sure it will be crowded and I will get a bunch of flippers in my face :( I think that one leaves right from the dock which is convenient too and they drop off at the beach nearby.

Because I will be on my own to snorkel I’ll have to book either with ship or independent in January. I like supporting the dive shops local if possible but won’t hesitate to book through the ship if I can’t find others to go with me on private excursions.

Will keep the 200 yards info though for February when my husband, son and dil will be coming too, thanks!

Taxis are easy to get. Just walk out to the parking lot. There's a taxi stand.

I've seen these smaller boats along the beach between Margaritaville and Jacks. I know Papa J's has a good fishing rep. But I'm not sure how good the snorkel guides are for any of these boats.

What I like about Blue Waters and GTD and even Oasis Diving, is that the dive shops are PADI certified and the dive guides are good. They also work as snorkel guides too.

Thank you. Oasis won’t do it you have to book through cruise ship. Blue Waters was great with sending me info and good reviews.
