jalakim Posted January 13, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2006 I just read this on another thread. We are sailing on the BRilliance in April. It would be very disappointing if it is a fact. I have been looking foreward to sampling all the goodies that everyone has been writing about. Can anyone else confirm this?? "Unfortunately, Brilliance 23 Dec 05 Panama sailing, the menu ( at the Seaview Cafe) was totally different: Pasta & Pizza only. Our party of 18 was disappointed" Thanks Kim

negc Posted January 13, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2006 There has been only ONE post indicating that the Seaview Cafe on the Brilliance had changed its menu. No other confirmation and the one post claimed that it had occurred a few weeks ago. I find it highly unlikely that such a change would have taken place and not been mentioned by more than one poster in all this time. I wouldn't be overly worried unless there is confirmation of the alleged change from more posters. Seaview Cafe is one of the Radiance class ships "hidden secrets" and many folks have a wonderful time on this class of ship and never even discover its existence, much less sample its fare. :)
bchbms Posted January 13, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2006 We were on the Brilliance Med cruise last October and the menu over there was different in the Seaview - pizza and paninis and things like that. I was disappointed that we couldn't get the onion rings and Cubans, but the menu was good anyway. I think this is the only change they make, sort of goes along with the itinerary of the ship's destinations.
rozen Posted January 13, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 13, 2006 We were on the Brilliance December 12 cruise, and the menu is different: pizza and pasta. I would like to know if the other Radiance class ships have the same change. We will be going on the Serenede in February.
negc Posted January 13, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2006 We were on the Brilliance December 12 cruise, and the menu is different: pizza and pasta. I would like to know if the other Radiance class ships have the same change. We will be going on the Serenede in February. Apparently not since the only reports (yours and two others to date) only involve the Brilliance. It may have something to do with the itineraries sailed by this particular ship or it may be a trial which could be extended to other Radiance class ships if it is well received. Based on the initial reports on this board at least, it doesn't sound like it is a welcome change so I suspect that RCI would think long and hard before changing what appears to be a popular menu to one which has not been greeted with much enthusiasm. There also seems to be an effort to offer some different options on various Radiance ships (for example the crepes and the special casino program both of which seem to be limited to the Jewel, and perhaps the pasta and pizza offerings in the Seaview on Brilliance). Has anyone noticed any other special features that seem to be specific to a particular Radiance class ship? If so, your input would be welcome.:)
FitzLA Posted January 13, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2006 If it is just Pizza and pasta now, it sounds a lot like Sorrentos on Freedom class ships. Sorrentos will serve pizza and pasta at no additional charge. Maybe they are trying it to see if they should change all the ships to that.
jalakim Posted January 14, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted January 14, 2006 I would be very disappointed if this has happened. We are sailing on her in April and have been reading the raves about it for over a year. Not that it is the whole cruise, but I was looking very foreward to trying all the goodies. ChoosinCruisin Posted January 14, 2006 #9 Share Posted January 14, 2006 On our 12/12 BOS sailing we met with the Head Chef Henri and he said that last summer they experimented with changing the Seaview menu to reflect to cuisine of the Med ports. It was a huge success and he said they would be repeating the menu soon in preparation for the summer itinerary. We did not go to the Seaview this trip so I can't comment on whether or not the menu had already been altered.
MysticRhythmCruiser Posted January 14, 2006 #10 Share Posted January 14, 2006 I can confirm that the Seaview Cafe menu was pizza and pasta on the 11/22 cruise on Brilliance. However, it was the first sailing here after returning from Europe. I'll be honest, it was nice but pasta and thick sauces just seemed a little heavy for Caribbean fare. Pizza, however, was quite good. Cheers, Esther
JaneStarr Posted January 14, 2006 #11 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Don't think it was just for Med. route since we did 10 day Partial Panama over Christmas & New Years. I'm the "one" person who reported menu change up until this thread. We were disappointed since my extended family liked to feed the kids early dinner out by the kid's water slide just outside Seaview entrance. This new menu doesn't lend itself well to that environment. Pizza & and pasta were "made to order", as long as you chose one of the types listed on the menu and didn't mind reheated pasta. Honestly, I'm probably too picky about pizza and would never wait for them to make the same stuff that is available to grab from Windjammer. I missed being able to order (at charge) a milkshake or just some onion rings or fish and chips. Granted, there are plenty of places to eat onboard so nobody needs to go hungry. I was just disappointed by the change. Yes, consider me somewhat cynical, but I see a possible "profit center" motive here. If they can quietly change the Seaview menu to something less "desirable" and unique, at a later date they can re-introduce a menu similar to the original but with a surcharge a la Johnny Rockets...I could be reading way too much into this, but only time (and our public reaction) will tell. Pumbaamd Posted January 14, 2006 #12 Share Posted January 14, 2006 We got off the Brilliance yesterday and the Seaview served Paninni's, pasta, salads and pizza. I asked about the change and was told they like to change the menu every 6 months. The Paninni sandwiches and pizza were pretty good.
realtordebbie Posted January 14, 2006 #13 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Just off BOS and IMHO they have ruined the Seaview. Our entire dining room tablemates complained to the head waiter regarding the change. He explained the changed was made to comform with the European itinerary. I told him they had ruined the Seaview and the other tablemates heartily agreed. He said the ships which don't have Johnny Rockets were changing to this menu. The menu is pasta with different sauces, pizza with different toppings, caesar's salad, paninis which are premade and then grilled, soup, tiramisu and biscotti. I went once and didn't go back however did walk by several times. There was never a line like before. It was truly disappointing. In the Windjammer there is a pizza station and a daily pasta with some sort of sauce and hamburgers and hot dogs and french fries along with the other food items. There are no longer fish and chips, chicken tenders, cuban sandwich, reubens. I too think it was a cost cutting move. Certainly you will not go hungry. This was just a unique and enjoyable option. Airb330 Posted January 14, 2006 #15 Share Posted January 14, 2006 I'll be on the Serenade next week. Hopefully it has the old and better (imo) menu. I'll report on in for Seaview Cafe lovers.
Rare Radio Posted January 14, 2006 #16 Share Posted January 14, 2006 I just returned from the Jewel today...and ate at the Seaview Cafe several times...There was no Pizza or Pasta at Seaview. There was however Pizza and Pasta in the Solarium Cafe... Maybe the change is limited to the Brilliance Radio ;) ;)
FinelyCruising Posted January 14, 2006 #17 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Oh I hope so. I loved the Seaview and Jewel and am looking forward to it on Radiance. Glad you're having a good time, Radio!
kenandlaura06 Posted January 15, 2006 #18 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Perhaps they are testing out the Sorrentos idea?
emilygrace Posted January 15, 2006 #19 Share Posted January 15, 2006 I'm sure hoping this doesn't come to pass on the Jewel. I think if they want to offer pasta and pizza they should have it in the Solarium cafe and leave the Seaview the way it was. I've been talking up this little known gem to my friend who is sailing with me on the Jewel this Oct./Nov., and I'm hoping it's still the sandwiches/fries/onion rings menu. Corby44 Posted January 15, 2006 #20 Share Posted January 15, 2006 That excuse that they are giving about changing the menu every six months doesn't fly. We have been eating their onion rings for at least two years on two different Radiance sized ships.
NancyIL Posted January 15, 2006 #21 Share Posted January 15, 2006 I really liked the reuben sandwich at the Seaview on Jewel. Also LOVED the crepes in the Solarium - YUM!
negc Posted January 15, 2006 #22 Share Posted January 15, 2006 That excuse that they are giving about changing the menu every six months doesn't fly. We have been eating their onion rings for at least two years on two different Radiance sized ships. Where did you hear this? Nowhere on this thread or on these boards have I read any suggestion that this change is something that is regularly scheduled and the only posts reporting a change in the menu specifically cite the Brilliance as being the only ship where it has taken place. Until there is evidence to the contrary I expect that the Seaview Cafe menu will remain unchanged (except perhaps on the Brilliance on European or other exotic itineraries). Judging from the board's strong reaction to the reported change on the Brilliance, I have to believe that RCI is more likely to return to the original menu on the Brilliance than it is to extend the Pasta and Pizza menu to Seaview Cafes on their other ships. negc Posted January 15, 2006 #24 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Changing menu every six months was posted above: Thanks for identifying the source. I believe that whoever told them that was wrong, perhaps trying to justify the decision made on the Brilliance and avoid blame. That sort of thing happens all too often when someone makes up a story to explain something when they don't know, or don't want to tell the true story. It isn't limited to cruiselines but can be experienced whenever you deal with large companies. It is one reason that most companies don't want unauthorized representatives speaking on behalf of the company.
jalakim Posted January 15, 2006 Author #25 Share Posted January 15, 2006 Below is a quote from another poster who just came off the Brilliance on Friday. I asked her about the change and this is what she had to say...... "Yes, the Seaview changed to pizza, pasta, and pannini sandwiches. Not to my liking. The day we went a lot of folks walked out, like us, after seeing the menu. Too bad."
