Osaka or Kyoto

We will be stopping at Osaka with Diamond Princess.  They have excursions to Kyoto from this port.  This is our first visit to Japan and are wondering which city to visit.  Any comments or suggestions?

Kyoto if you want to see "ancient" Japan.

We were lucky enough to see both.  Osaka had amazing street food and a vibrant atmosphere but Kyoto is why we went to Japan.  Very beautiful old castles/shrines and gorgeous garden areas.

Definately Kyoto, and Nara if time allows.   Osaka is another huge city but Kyoto and Nara are something else.

Kyoto is a cant miss.

Also happens to be the only city not destroyed in the war

The link gets you to the review of our Japan cruise. Just follow the cruise by using the arrows on the bottom of each day till you get to Kobe. 
There is a day about Osaka and a day about Kyoto since we had an overnight in Kobe.
