kate52 Posted December 1, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 1, 2018 Sorry no-one has replied with any good suggestions. I can't be much help either- we just looked around the town which is a very easy walk from ship, but it wasn't really very interesting. Nothing much in the way of transport or tourist info either, or we might have gone up to Trsat where the castle is. Only thing I can suggest is that if one of the ship's tours looks remotely interesting- go for it!
edinburgher Posted December 22, 2018 #4 Share Posted December 22, 2018 We bought a day ticket for the public bus and went up to a village above Rijeka for views and a short look around, then came back down into town. We used the ticket again to go up to Trsat Castle and the immediate area around it, and once back down we strolled around town. Do not even think about walking up to the castle! The zoned ticket would have taken us further along the coast. Check websites. The visitrijeka website is very helpful and has good info and maps to look at. Start there, also Tripadvisor. We enjoyed our day there.

edinburgher Posted December 27, 2018 #6 Share Posted December 27, 2018 Had to look at my photos. It was Kastav. Could have also gone along the coast to Opatija but not enough time. The zoned bus ticket info should be online.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 12, 2019 #7 Share Posted January 12, 2019 I'm considering a cruise that goes to Rijeka. I have already looked into a private tour that would take me to Pula (about an hour away) to see the outstanding Roman ruins there, including a large amphitheatre and a well preserved Roman temple. https://www.arrivalguides.com/en/Travelguides/Europe/Croatia/Pula
