Beaches

We'll be on the Diamond Princess for the Feb. 25 sailing from Sydney to Auckland. We live in Florida and like to visit other beaches when we travel. I noticed that the Tauranga port is partly described as a beach resort area at Mount Maunganui. Does anyone know what sort of beach this is and if it is feasible to get there from the ship to enjoy the day?

I'd also be interested in any information on other beaches that may be available on our itinerary.

1. Sydney (we are getting in late the day before embarkation so no real time to go to a beach, I'm afraid)

2. Melbourne

3. Hobart

4. Dunedin

5. Christchurch

6. Tauranga

7. Auckland

Thank you!!

You can check out the beaches at Mt Maunganui from this web cam ....

(click on the wave cam and then take control of camera).

The ship docks at Mt Maunganui, the port for Tauranga, and the beaches are about 10 minutes walk from the gangway. You can swim harbourside in the still waters of Pilot Bay ,or in the surf at the "Mount"....... oceanside.
