CruisingMom77 Posted January 1, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2019 I understand there are taxis readily available from the port to Seven Mile Beach, but how about on the way back? Are there taxis readily available along the beach and/or resorts to take us back to the port?
BoopTennis Posted January 2, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2019 we just got back from a cruise including Cayman, and some of our adult kids went to Seven Mile Beach after an excursion, then caught a taxi/bus (small bus) back to the cruise port, they were easy to find. cb at sea Posted January 3, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 3, 2019 Hop on the bus...cheaper and they run ALL the time. Walk to the road, and the next bus will stop. $2.50 pp. They pass by about every 15 mins.
kellyy315 Posted January 3, 2019 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2019 We were at Grand Cayman last week and took the bus. I was expecting it to be $2.50 pp each way. However it was $6 pp each way!!

Then you were likely in a taxi. 🙂 Taxis can also be large mini-van type vehicles, and they will pick up at the port and at all of the beach areas, and charge per person with multiple parties in the vehicle.

We were in a small bus type vehicle with about 25 people and there were many of them parked at the port and beach. Would that be a taxi or bus? We were just surprised when we got off at the beach and they said $6 each and it was for one way.

If you got on at the port and the van waited until it was full before the driver left, it was a taxi. The buses don’t usually pick people up at the port, the bus terminal is a few blocks away. Same for the return. If you got on in a parking lot by the beach, and the van waited until it was full before leaving, it was likely a taxi. Buses only stop along the main road to pick people up, and you usually have to flag them down by waving.

Although, I can understand the confusion if there were that many people on it. The usual taxis are 8-10 people or thereabouts. Sounds like they were using a bigger vehicle and running it as a beach shuttle at the taxi rates. They should have made it clear to passengers what the rate was as people were boarding.
