I thought ”oh they’re nice little icebergs” and then along came the photo with the penguins on! Some quite magnificent scenery and the next group of photos with the whales are marvellous. hooked_on_cruising Posted February 6, 2019 #234 Share Posted February 6, 2019 Thank you so much for your review and sharing these pictures. I am daydreaming about my upcoming cruise to South America hoping we are able to sail around Cape Horn. Will not get to see Antarctica so your pictures have provided great enjoyment. Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted February 9, 2019 Author #249 Share Posted February 9, 2019 Not sure if it was an Alpha Male or Female and a juvenile that we saw , but we think these were Gerlache Orcas near the ship Source : https://us.whales.org/wdc-in-action/meet-different-types-of-orca Gerlache orcas, named for the Gerlache Strait of the Antarctic Peninsula where they are most often found, are smaller than Type A and Pack Ice orcas. They also may appear brown or yellowish because of diatoms and have a cape of pale color. Their preferred diet is unknown, but they have been seen feeding on penguins and are usually spotted around penguin colonies.
