Can I add third guest to the room if so equipped?

Hi,

We have decided to have a family cruise of at least two cabin, one with 4 people and one with 2 people. What we are not sure is that there may be another 1 kid who may be able to join us. If he is traveling alone, then we plan to put him in the 2 people cabin. If his mom is traveling as well, then we will get another room.

My question is, in this case, can we book 2 rooms now and decide the third room later? Do you recommend to book a three person room and drop one guest later, or book a two person room and add the third guest later?

The problem with waiting is that there may not be a third room available later, at least not in a location that you want.  OTOH, if you book a third room now, you will have to make a deposit and cancel within the allowable period if you decide  you won't need it.  Your choice.  Actually, it is their choice to decide if they can go or not.  It should not be your dilemma.

I believe one other consideration is ship capacity. Since the ship has a maximum capacity, if the ship is at that capacity you cannot add anyone else, even if there is an open bed in the room. I believe this comes into play especially during spring break season when many extended families are traveling.

Thank you all!

We are looking at June 2020 Alaska itinerary, so I am "guessing" we got some time to make a decision?

We would like to lock down cabins (at least two) early though, that's why I am asking the question.

You don't necessarily have a lot of time. Some Alaskan cruises sell very well, so your preferred cabins may sell out. Another possibility is that the cruise price may go up, which may make it more expensive to book the third cabin. I'd recommend booking now. You should get your deposit back if you have to cancel unless you book a non-refundable fare or wait until April, 2020 or later.
