readingfast Posted March 8, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 8, 2019 We are sailing in late August this year. The route is Dover, Haugesund, Flam, Skjolden, Stavanger, Dover. Has anyone any idea about what temperatures will be like in that area and what kind of clothes to take? Any information would be very welcome. CruiserBruce Posted March 8, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 8, 2019 You can Google search the weather for a couple of your ports. Try "August weather Skjolden" for example. For clothes, the answer is layers.
Rare dronnygirl Posted March 8, 2019 #3 Share Posted March 8, 2019 Last year Norway had record temperatures in the summer but that doesn't mean this will happen again this year. You could get sunny warm days but you could get rain. I would take a mix of clothes but make sure you have waterproof shoes and jacket. A fleece could also be useful if it's cool on deck. kaisatsu Posted March 8, 2019 #5 Share Posted March 8, 2019 At the minimum, you should bring a windproof/waterproof outer layer, a base layer you can wear alone in case of warm weather, a lightweight insulating layer, and a midweight insulating layer. It’s worth bringing a hat, thin gloves, and a scarf, since the windchill on deck can be quite cold while sailing through Sognefjord at that time of year. A heavyweight insulating layer (e.g. a thick fleece) can be nice to layer under your outer shell if you tend to get cold easily. Water-resistant footwear is nice to have if you plan to be out walking around much, since light rain is quite common. (It’s also often windy, so a good waterproof shell is important. Umbrellas are usually a lost cause.)
naturelovergirl Posted March 12, 2019 #6 Share Posted March 12, 2019 We were in Norway in Aug two years ago... and we were so glad we had layers, good shoes, good rain gear, and were prepared for anything. Some days were gorgeous- some days were rainy... but Norway is amazing! Just be prepared.
