Carnival Corp Possible Ban from US Ports

Carnival Corp is facing a possible ban of all its ships (HAL, Princess, Seabourn, Cunard etc) from all US ports arising from criminal charges.  Judge Seitz will decide in June.  We have  an Alaska cruise booked in July and are about to make final payment.

Has anyone heard, if this ban happens, whether HAL will issue a refund or whether they'll expect people to use their travel insurance?  And would the insurance be valid if cancellation was a known risk prior to final payment?

Our TA just called HAL who were very unhelpful.  The rep incorrectly thought the issue only applied to Carnival line ships.  She then said if the ban happened, HAL would cancel cruises stopping in US ports and issue a refund, but refused to put that in writing.

Any information would greatly appreciated.

There is no answer to your question beyond what you have learned from HAL.

Given the ins and outs of the US court and judicial system, it is doubtful that any action by a court will be allowed to take effect.  Appeals, stays, etc, all in the wheelhouse of corporate lawyers, will prevail.

One of the problems with our legal system (I'm from Canada, but apparently the US system is similarly afflicted) is that we have judges who are prone to operating their mouths without having their brains engaged.

Won't happen.  The economic effect on major cruise ports (Fort L, Miami, Seattle, San Diego, etc) would be devastating.

We call it the God complex. Most judges have it.

As I've responded on other threads on this topic, across the Carnival family of boards, while I don't feel there will be a total ban on Carnival ships, I would not be surprised to see those ships with the most number of the 800+ line items of parole violations on record be banned for a year or until their record is clear of violations, whichever is longer.
