MalbecWine Posted May 2, 2019 #51 Share Posted May 2, 2019 Gilly, that is why we sit in the back rows on cruises. If it’s not so good we make a quite mistake and head for a lounge or casino.
Rare crusin7 Posted May 2, 2019 Author #52 Share Posted May 2, 2019 Good Morning! It is a chilly 36°. Yahoooo No rough seas yet. We had an exceptionally calm night. A big thank you to Captain Ubaldo for his excellent navigational skills! We had dinner in Prime 7 last night. They were very busy. The staff works incredibly hard. They are all working on one hour of less sleep. We move the clocks forward 1 hour every day until we reach Alaska. I had the Harvest salad which was okay. I wouldn’t order it again. I had the half roasted chicken for my entree. It was served with a cranberry-mango relish. Very yummy. As far as shows go we have not been to one! We like to make a donation to the Casino after dinner. When we go, like Malbec, we sit in the back for an easy escape.
Rare crusin7 Posted May 2, 2019 Author #53 Share Posted May 2, 2019 We are starting to feel some movement. Captain has slowed from 20kts to 14.5kts. It’s windy and cold!
Travelcat2 Posted May 3, 2019 #54 Share Posted May 3, 2019 Thank you for the update. The weather and seas are to be expected. The Bering Sea can be quite the wild ride. We also sit in the back of the theater, but not just because we can make an easy escape. There are some aft seats (on Explorer) where you are not having to look over the heads of others. We love those seats and enjoy the show from there. I suppose that one needs to have good vision in order to see that far.
indigosea Posted May 3, 2019 #55 Share Posted May 3, 2019 We too always have an escape plan in case we get the shrieking singers. My personal opinion is some of less experienced entertainers have not been trained on how to use the mike. One of the best shows was a lady jazz singer who did not need a mike and she was accompanied with just the piano. She had an amazing voice. There is a new tendency for shows to have taped music which one cruise critic once said the reason it doesn’t work is the entertainers have to play catch-up to the tape. I really hate watching the wonderful band musicians on stage behind just doing nothing during the taped parts. This seems to be on all ships now except for the ones like Seabourn who just have 6 talented performers and 2 dancers.
Rare crusin7 Posted May 3, 2019 Author #56 Share Posted May 3, 2019 The seas have calmed down. Thank God. The sky even cleared up for a while. We had dinner in Chartreuse. Our server Nadege was the best we have had this cruise. She is from Nantes, France and has been with Regent 3 years. She was a delight. I got the mixed green salad. Jim got the cream of artichoke soup which was wonderful. We all ordered the beef. It was excellent. The highlight was the apple tart. Break your diet delicious! Clocks move forward another hour. It is now 33° Brrrr!
briar14 Posted May 3, 2019 #57 Share Posted May 3, 2019 Nadege is one of our favorite servers! We met her when she was new to Regent and have enjoyed watching her successful progress with Regent. Not sure she will remember us, but please tell her the Johnson’s said hello. Most recently, we saw her on the Circle Australia cruise. Enjoying everyone’s reports and pictures. Stay warm! Rare crusin7 Posted May 4, 2019 Author #58 Share Posted May 4, 2019 Sea Sickness Report We are sailing the Bering Sea and all is pretty good. We have waves and motion but I have been in much worse. I did put a new Scop patch on yesterday ( a whole one). We are on the 9th floor up front. So far we are still smiling! We get breakfast in the room every morning at 6:30. The server has been fantastic. He is always smiling. All this with having to move the clocks ahead 1 hour everyday. The ship seems a bit crowded because we are all inside. Freezing cold outside. We are occupied playing Bingo, eating, getting Spa treatments, and eating! Oh plus drinking. Loving this cruise.

I'm hoping you're still ok up front? 🤞
Rare crusin7 Posted May 4, 2019 Author #60 Share Posted May 4, 2019 Hi Gill. We went down to Coffee Connection for an hour to get some Gyrating relief. We are okay so far, thank you. Miso Glazed sea bass tonight in Compass Rose. Yummy....my mouth is watering.
Rare crusin7 Posted May 4, 2019 Author #61 Share Posted May 4, 2019 The ship is really moving. Winds are 55 MPH. So far our patches are working. Tonight was the Seven Seas reception. We did not attend. We ate in Compass Rose and had the always amazing Miso glazed sea bass. It was the best thing I ate on the ship so far. Jim had the chocolate soufflé.
Travelcat2 Posted May 4, 2019 #62 Share Posted May 4, 2019 Just looking at the Miso Glazed Sea Bass makes my mouth water. Hope that your patch continues to work and that the seas do not get too rough.
Rare crusin7 Posted May 5, 2019 Author #63 Share Posted May 5, 2019 Hello from calmer seas! The waves started settling down early this afternoon. We just feel a gentle rocking now. Today is our second Saturday May 4 due to crossing the International Date Line. Whacky huh?? We had dinner in Chartreuse with Nadege. Yes, Briar I relayed your message. She says hello back. Dinner was excellent. I started with the cream of artichoke soup. It was so good! Picture doesn’t do it justice. I got the Dover sole with all sauce on the side. I dressed it myself. Chef would probably be horrified! It was excellent. We all got the mouth watering apple tart. Delicious!

Rare Gilly Posted May 5, 2019 #66 Share Posted May 5, 2019 (edited) Congratulations @crusin7 ! Wasn't it fun? I posted a few pics over on my blog, doing my best to capture the spirit of the occasion. Quite how these amazing people manage to work harder than ever (six sea days in a row can be no picnic for them) on reduced sleep (six hours lost in six days too) and still be full of fun and spirit is amazing. Kudos to them all. Edited May 5, 2019 by Gilly
califsealion Posted May 5, 2019 #67 Share Posted May 5, 2019 Exactly what kind of competitions are involved in a country fair on a luxury cruise ship? 😄

This is the time when Regent guests that want to act like children for 45 minutes can do so. Each department has it's own booth and some of them can be quite innovative. They compete against each other (note: Housekeeping has won many times).
Hambagahle Posted May 6, 2019 #69 Share Posted May 6, 2019 One I really like is smelling and identifying spices. Get them all right and you win a prize. Once on the Voyager there was a game where you had to throw a ball at a target and that was connected to a "ducking chair" - each time the target was hit the person on the chair was tipped into the pool. It was organised by the Galley crew and even they lined up to try when the Exec. Chef was sitting in the chair!!!
Rare crusin7 Posted May 6, 2019 Author #70 Share Posted May 6, 2019 The winner of the Winter Olympics was Housekeeping. Well deserved, they were adorable! We had dinner in Compass Rose. The food and service was fantastic. I started with a pear salad with Gorgonzola and lemon vinegar dressing. My entree was crispy Duck a la Orange. Yummy Dessert was cherry strudel. It was good. Jim had the best dessert. Bavarian cheesecake!
Rare crusin7 Posted May 6, 2019 Author #71 Share Posted May 6, 2019 After 6 sea days we will arrive in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. Thank God we survived the Bering Sea. It was bouncy for a little over one day. Not too bad. There are no tours provided by Regent. They will offer a shuttle service into town on local school busses. There is no set time for pickup or return. It will be a high of 47° with scattered showers. Our cruise has been excellent. We are treated like royalty but more importantly family. We love everything about it!
RJ2002 Posted May 6, 2019 #72 Share Posted May 6, 2019 Congrats on your Country Fair win. We collected the same style bag on a cruise last year, except it says “Oceania” on the side! 😉😂. It’s a nice bag. Really enjoying your pictures and reports.
Travelcat2 Posted May 6, 2019 #73 Share Posted May 6, 2019 Adding my congratulations on your Country Fair win. Those things are so much fun! Glad that you survived the Bering Sea! Hope there is smooth sailing for the rest of the cruise!

Rare crusin7 Posted May 7, 2019 Author #75 Share Posted May 7, 2019 Gilly is right! Perfect weather and lots of sunshine. They told us that never happens during May. It is always extremely windy. We lucked out. The most striking thing about Dutch Harbor are the bald eagles flying everywhere. They are huge! Can’t load photos.. I’ll try later.
