jack17737 Posted May 2, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 2, 2019 Is it possible to pick up shore WiFi while on a cruise ship passing through the Panama Canal? I've been able to pick up shore WiFi while on river cruises.
Rare Turtles06 Posted May 2, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 2, 2019 Welcome to Cruise Critic! Unfortunately, you have mistakenly posted in the forum for getting help in using the message boards. You need to post your question in the Ports of Call/Panama Canal forum. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/54-panama-canal/ CC is a great resource. It would be helpful to browse through the various forums so you know what is where.
Rare Essiesmom Posted May 2, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 2, 2019 No, you will not be able to pick up shore wifi while on the transit. The only service available to you will be the ship's cell tower. EM
Lou33 Posted May 3, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 3, 2019 (edited) Perhaps the OP had meant to ask about cell phone service? Wifi has a very limited range, usually 100 ft. So I can't imagine getting WiFi on a river cruise because the ship is moving. But you should be able to get cell phone service from the shore while in the canal. But I wonder if the ship leaves their cell service turned on, that may override any cell signal from the shore. cb at sea Posted May 16, 2019 #5 Share Posted May 16, 2019 The canal is an industrial area...any signals will be locked. You will need to use the ship's wi-fi while on the transit.
