Scuba diving in Belize

My husband and I want to go scuba diving in Belize.  NCL does not list scuba as an excursion.  Has anyone dove in Belize using a local dive shop?  If so, which dive shop?  And were you able to make it back to the ship (comfortably) in time?

If you're anchoring off Belize City, contact Sea Sports Belize. Their the only PADI5 outfit in Belize City.

If, as many NCL ships do now, you are at Harvest Caye, contact Belize Underwater (PADI5) or Splash Belize

The reason is LOCATION.

The reefs of Belize are off the outer row of islands, on the barrier reef.  It is a long distance to get there, from Belize City.  If you are at Havest Caye, probably not feasible at all.

It is over and hour ride each direction out to the reefs from the ships, that is after stopping at dive shop to gear everyone up, not really worth it for most people as it means easily 6-7 hours just to get in 2 dives.
