Alaska cabin selection

We are booking a North bound Alaska cruise for next year and wondering if it is worth the extra money for a Starboard side cabin?

When you are in the inside passages there will be scenery on both sides.  When you are not, you will not be close enough to land to see much but land on the horizon.  And it can be chilly on a balcony when the ship is moving.  So if it was me, I would save the money for excursions.  But I have done Alaska twice, B2B each time, in inside cabins.  However, most of the people who will reply to you will say yes, you simply must have a balcony, and better if starboard.   EM

It looks like you’re on Radiance.  I did Radiance round trip to Alaska in an inside cabin.  The ship has lots of glass.  I spent a lot of time on deck 13 in the Viking Crown, which was surprisingly empty.  In Icy Point (was there twice) the whales put on a spectacular show which IMO was best viewed from the mini golf aft area on deck 13 or from the back of the Windjammer.

We booked an inside cabin. In late June, early July, the sun is only set from 10 pm - 4 am, and it does not get completely dark at all. My husband did it last year and loved a quiet, dark place to day. And a bonus.... we could spend money on other things! 

 

It is not often I really want the cheapest option (like never 😁)

Starboard should not cost more than Port (assuming you're comparing the same location/category on both sides of the ship).....it's the actual category of cabin and deck level that is priced.

You will not want to be in your cabin/balcony all the time.  There are wonderful, scenic views EVERYWHERE!  Get out of the cabin and roam about!
