Bruce is right. Technically, it is booked under at least one person's name so that person would need to be there anytime anyone is there and there is a 6 person limit on the cabanas. Do the villa. It has more amenities and everyone can be there whenever they like.

I am traveling with 8 people.  Four want to go in the morning and four in the afternoon.  Can we share a cabana rental if only four people are there at a time ?

How long will your ship be at HMC? Usually it's only until early afternoon - that wouldn't give your groups much time to enjoy the beach if you are splitting it up.  And the second group would have wet towels and "old" snacks... seems kind of silly.  I think get two cabanas.  Or just get one and set up some beach chairs near it for your friends.  I think you are allowed to have "guests" in your cabana (but don't quote me on that! :))
