In terms of cruise ship legality, would I be successful in bringing a mini coffee press onboard? Or would I be reprimanded? Putting on flame retardant material before I get flamed in this thread...

Oh, coffee presses are perfectly fine - you just have to go to the Lido to get the hot water into the press (no kettle in the cabin).

 

But using Keurig pods would be a very cost-ineffective way to do that - much better to just bring a bag of ground coffee.

unfortunately it might not be very hot, like the coffee

As alluded to by @coevan, the water might start out hot from wherever room service originates, but by the time it gets to your cabin, maybe two or three deliveries later...
