Ship's Time vs Local Port Time

Recommended Posts

Won't argue that some cruise lines do change times.  But this thread was about Carnival in Bermuda.  Not other cruise lines.

Enjoy your cruise!  Regardless what time it is on ship and in ports it VACAY TIME for you!:classic_biggrin:

Sorry to upset you. We went to Bermuda last year on Carnival and they DID change the time. Needless to say. Both ways.

That may be true in Bermuda and Hawaii type cruises, but in the Caribbean, ship time is always the same time as the port of departure,  Thus ships debarking out of East Coast and Florida ports are always on Eastern time. Ship out of the Gulf ports are always on Central time.  Most ports in the Caribbean do not observe daylight savings time.  Bermuda does observe daylight savings time thus it's time is always +1 hour to Eastern time.  Cozumel and Costa Maya are on Eastern standard time all year round, by Mexican law for Quintana Roo.

The ship time and port times are listed on the cover of the Fun Times in your cabin the night before.

Eat your own words.

Well, I'm not sure how this got so sideways, but I will offer the observation that on all four cruises taken on Carnival since Dec 2017, out of Port Canaveral to either The Bahamas or Eastern Caribbean, as far as St Kitts and St Maarten, the ship always stayed on the originating port time (Eastern Time).  Yeah, The Bahamas is same time zone as FL, and also observes Daylight Savings, so moot point there.

Thus, local time was often different from the ship's time, by an hour usually (not sure about Amber Cove in the DR, since we were there during Daylight Savings, so in theory should have been same as Florida).

So...anyone been to Bermuda on a 24 hr stay with Carnival and can offer actual observations of Ship's Time vs Local Time?

And Maryred's post explained that for Bermuda and other ports where time zone changes may affect sailing. Please read these posts before responding.
