vivianmarie244 Posted June 22, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2019 (edited) We've done ruins, snorkeling, and don't care to lay out on the beach. We don't drink so we don't care to hang out at a bar all day. What is left to do? I don't see much on the ship excursions. Is this a port we should just stay on the ship? Rare crewsweeper Posted June 23, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 23, 2019 Costa Maya IS a beach port. There are some bike ride and ATV excursions, but all stop at a beach or two.
vivianmarie244 Posted June 23, 2019 Author #3 Share Posted June 23, 2019 Thank you for the information. I was not away that it was primarily a beach port and nothing else. Sounds similar to CocoCay. Maybe we'll just go out for a short walk and go back to enjoy a less crowded ship.
Rare crewsweeper Posted June 23, 2019 #4 Share Posted June 23, 2019 It is NOT like Coco Cay! First, it's on the mainland, not an island. Second, no single cruise line owns it. Third, beach clubs are along a malecon in what used to be primarily a small fishing village. All are privately owned and operated. Cruise port is typical cruise port shopping. Long pier. But get off and walk around.

Rare mitsugirly Posted June 24, 2019 #6 Share Posted June 24, 2019 They have redone the port over the last several years and it's a fairly "cute" port to explore. They do have a bird aviarius type thing that you can walk through (for a cost) and it goes above the buildings with swinging bridges around the port area. There's a pool there too. You can you don't care to lay out on the beach, but you could swim if you like that. There's also a dolphin area (they do dolphin swims) so even if you didn't do it, you could watch. Just a few thoughts if you didn't want to leave the port area.
tuc19439 Posted August 10, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 10, 2019 We didn't do any excursions while there, just explored the port area and did a bit of shopping. We did do the aviary tour for $12, and we thought it was super fun! It was very well put together and the birds looked very well cared for. Totally worth the $12.
