fizzy1 Posted June 25, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2019 We are doing our first back to back on QM2 from Southampton to NY this Aug . Starting to get a wee bit excited now !! 11 years since the last time we were aboard. We know we have to disembark at Redhook and tell immigration that we are on the return trip but what is the procedure for us getting back on? We will only be strolling for a few.hours. TheOldBear Posted June 25, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2019 You will need your photo ID (for terminal security) and ship's card (for ship's security) to enter the terminal and re board. Once in the terminal, stay to the left and walk around the folks waiting to check in. There may be some shore side staff to guide you to the left rear of the terminal to head up the ramp. [there is also an elevator] If there was a delay in zeroing out the ship, and boarding has not started, there is a lounge area set up before the gangway entrance.
Bigmike911 Posted June 26, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 26, 2019 Don't forget your passport, you will need that to clear immigration at the terminal.

Thanks so much . What do we say to staff? Also when we arrive off the ship is there a separate line for in transit visitors? We will be one of the last people to leave the ship as we are only stretching our legs ashore so will let the throng all clear first Edited June 26, 2019 by fizzy1

Tell them that you are "in transit" and apart from the security, you can board straight away. Why not cross the river on the relatively new passenger ferry for less than $3 and take your stroll around South Street Seaport. The ferry leaves less than 100yds from the terminal and gives you great views of the ship and the Brooklyn Bridge. Just an idea. Stewart
majortom10 Posted June 26, 2019 #7 Share Posted June 26, 2019 Just take passport and cruise card and on your return just tell them you are "in transit" and they will direct you to a different area and you will get straight on the ship.

Do we do that too when we leave the ship or do we just go through the same line as passengers disembarking for onward journeys?
Bigmike911 Posted June 26, 2019 #10 Share Posted June 26, 2019 I have never seen a different immigration queue for in-transit passengers, just citizens (I think including Canadians) and non-citizens. The earlier you exit, the fewer people will be in the queue.

majortom10 Posted June 26, 2019 #12 Share Posted June 26, 2019 When returning to the ship you will be directed to another queue to embark the ship so that you are not in the same queue for those who are embarking for the first time. There are very few people who are "in transit" compared to those embarking for the first time so it is quicker than having you to wait in that queue. When we returned to QM2 we just staff that we were "in transit" and they told us where to go and we went straight on the ship.

T5LHR Posted June 26, 2019 #14 Share Posted June 26, 2019 Thanks for asking the question! I am doing the same next year and was wondering lots of similar things... I will be hopping on the ferry over to Manhattan for some retail therapy, but great to get the info on re-boarding the ship etc. 🙂
