LandlockedCruiser01 Posted June 29, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2019 I'll be stopping in Catalina on my next cruise. One of the excursions offered is the Funtastic Catalina Race; it's 3 hours, and it's basically a scavenger hunt. I've done those, and they're usually a lot of fun. But do you get to visit any "must see" sights on the island? Like the casino, the theater, or the historic downtown? Or are you too busy looking for clues to help your team win, and not have time really explore the interesting parts? Would you recommend this excursion? Or am I better off doing the Avalon Scenic Tour instead?
princeton123211 Posted July 2, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 2, 2019 Avalon is an extremely easy place to tackle on your own-- I haven't done this tour but I think I would be really frustrated with any group tour of a town that can be walked end to end in the matter of minutes. What they could possibly do to fill in 3 hours I really couldn't tell you. The Casino tour is highly worthwhile-- you also get a tour of the theater as part of it. Very impressive building. It has to be a scavenger hunt, where you find and/or photograph things like a non-standard street sign or a specific type of business. You compete against other teams, and you get a reward at the end. Probably drink coupons or something. The Casino tour sounds nice. I really like old buildings, Beaux Arts in particular. Not to mention, it's inexpensive. Edited July 3, 2019 by LandlockedCruiser01
