Day 4- Cozumel

We have been to Cozumel a few times and love going to Mr. Sanchos. However, with this trip being just the two of us and wanting to not feel pressured about being on a schedule we had nothing planned. We slept in and woke to a cloudy and wet mid-morning.

Breakfast was already over so we went to buffet and they had limited snacking options. We sat just outside the buffet on the pool deck and ordered Bloody Mary’s. The pool deck also has a small splash pad for littles that my 2 year old would of LOVED to play in.

We made our daily video call home and checked in with the outside world. We had originally decided to just walk around the port area but my husband really wanted a massage since he felt he missed some of his time yesterday. Online we found a spa outside of the port area that had great reviews and decided that once it stopped raining we would head that way.

The sky started to clear a short time later and it became very humid and hot. We started our way through the port area. We took our time and wondered throughout some of the shopping areas (mainly just to get out of the sun). Just outside the port area is a strip mall that has many new storefronts. We made our way toward the spa. Here is where it gets a little off plan!  A lady was sitting right outside the spa and asked if we would like a massage. My husband asked how much for an hour massage and she said $50. I told them I would be next door at the Carl Jr’s getting a soda and cooling off. I would see them in an hour. In about 45 minutes my husband came back. It turned out that the lady’s massage shop was upstairs over a hair salon next door to the nice spa we had researched. No air! A little sketchy! But the massage wasn’t too bad... but he still didn’t get his 1 hour. Lesson learned!

We walked back toward the port to see the sky starting to cloud up again. The line was long and RCI had fruit infused water out for people while they waited. The work crews were out painting which is something that we noticed all week. We got in just as it started to pour.

After getting ready for dinner we had a couple of glasses of wine while we waited for seating at the MDR. After the first night the line wasn’t a problem. When the doors opened we would simply walk to our assigned seating. I noticed that there always seemed to be a line for the My-Time dining friends that would be seated after in open areas.

For dinner tonight my husband had Chicken Waldorf Salad, Prime Rib, and Apple Pie

I had Shrimp Cocktail (not pictured), Prime Rib, and Almond Cake.

After the dinner service the waiters brought out individual birthday cakes in honor of RCI 50th birthday and sang Happy Birthday.

When I preordered for the last night I asked for pasta of some kind. Jay said he would see what he could do!!

Day 5 - Last Sea Day

(Sidebar- so over the 4th a stray dog that adopted us right before the cruise has blessed us now with three pups. Yeah me!)

The cruise flew by and we spent the last sea day sleeping in!  After finally getting awake we went and had my husbands special drink creation at the solarium bar.

We had lunch in the MDR and was able to have our evening waiter, Jay. He is amazing and works hard to make sure that my special dietary needs are met.

The MDR offers an amazing salad and food bar or a menu to order off. My husband had stir fry and a salad. I had salad with GF DF burger and fries. So yummy!!!  And an espresso for dessert.

Today we found the Internet not working. I really wish the boat had some type of communication ability on their app. I know that some RCI boats have it but if we had our boys with us this would of been rough keeping tabs on them. NCL really has the app and internet advantage.

We had been looking at our photos taken onboard this week and really I only wanted the one from our formal dinner. For some reason we couldn’t find it printed and had to have it reprinted. $19.99 and wouldn’t be ready until later that night.

We went to another Art Auction in the Bolero Lounge so that I could get my free work of art. This time we made sure and stayed until they started handing out the envelopes.

Back at the room we found that Lewis had left tip envelopes and luggage tags in the room.  Tipping on top of the gratuity fees that you already pay is an optional personal choice. They do have tip envelopes at the customer service if you need them also.

At this point I didn’t know that we could of exchanged the luggage tags for an earlier time but group 11 was set to disembark at 9:30 which worked for us so I really didn’t want to think too hard about leaving anyway!!

We decided to go to the last bingo for a FREE cruise. This time it would be held in the Spotlight Lounge and  it was so nice to have room!  The bingo line was very long and I left to grab a couple of drinks.

The bar tenders will only allow you to get one drink at a time (with the exception of water) So if you want two have two cards or wait a minute and order another.

This bingo offered electronic as well as paper options.  While waiting on the beginning we watched family’s competing at minute to win it type games. So funny.

Well, we didn’t win the free cruise or any of the bingos so we moved on to made one last visit with Winston.  He was amazing and in the Solarium Bar. Make sure to visit him when your onboard.  Drink service between NCL and RCI are about the same. With the exception that with RCI speciality coffees and bottled water were included which was nice.

We went to the early Comedy show and it was pretty good. Had a feeling he was holding back and decided we would try his over 18 late show later.

Dressed for dinner and we made the Show of Fl

ags in the centrum at 7:30. It was so cool. You have to make sure and make this event. Be there early for a good spot to watch everything.

For our last dinner my husband had

Pork tacos, Lamb (not as good as first night but still yummy) and Royal Chocolate Cake.

Now remember I had asked if they could make me some pasta??  Well look what I had!!   Shrimp Cocktail, Spaghetti (YES!!), and Chocolate (my favorite!) I will miss feeling like my allergies are no big deal and not having to worry about every bite I eat when at a restaurant. For me RCI dinner service is better than NCL. But NCL has better breakfast, lunch and anytime food.

Back at the room we found this guy hanging around along with a coupon for another casino “free” cruise with RCI.

We started packing. I always hate this part. We usually keep everything in our room and do self-assist walk off with all of our bags. This allows us to be the first off for earlier flights. This time our flight is at 3:45 so we had time. We put our large bags outside the door and kept a small bag to put meds and things we would need in the morning.

We wasted a little bit of time and more money in the Casino waiting on the 18 plus comedy show to start. It was better and so many things made me laugh.

My husband decided he hadn’t paid enough for our “free” cruise and went back while I headed to bed. Only to realize I hadn’t picked up my photo!  I threw on clothes and ran down to the photo shop to find it closed. I ran to guest services and a very nice gentleman said if I found him in the morning he would ask the photo manager to get the photo for me since I had already paid for it.  I walked back to the the room and found the photo hanging in the door number.

Disembarkation-

Woke up the next morning early due to all the sounds of us docking. I really wasn’t sure about the procedure but knew I needed to be in the theater before 9:30. So we spent the morning finishing up our cookies and fruit. We packed everything else up. Bring your own shampoo, conditioner, body soap!!! I don’t think I’m a picky person but I was glad I had some on this trip! Also we found having a 12 foot plugins (not extension cords or power strips) for our iPhones helped us charge our phones while keeping them close to the bed at night. (The plugin was across the room!) We walked to the theater and found that they had called most of the groups already. They called ours right before 9:30. We waited a total of 5 minutes in line on the boat and walked off to customs where our bags were waiting. By 9:45 we were getting on our shuttle to return to the airport. We have been really lucky with disembarking with NCL and this was a great process with RCI.

We have two more NCL cruises planned for Oct 2019 and May 2021. Not sure when we will fit another RCI in but can’t wait to sail again!!

Thank you for following along and I’m here if you have any questions!!

...... The door numbers point to the front of the boat!

Wouldn't the numbers point to the front of the ship only on the starboard side?  On the port side the numbers should point to the aft of the ship.  Or those would be some really weird looking numbers.   A backwards 3?  Or a backwards 7?

I believe the door signs are all made so they would point to the front of the ship. One of the stewards gave me that piece of advice when she heard my husband and I debating on if we were going the correct way.

You were on the same sailing we were. Love your review - it’s absolutely on point. We felt like the Spotlight was totally underused, too & agree that Boleros is way too small for Karaoke. It should have been in Spotlight. Also, the staff was fantastic & went out of their way to make everything wonderful.

Not only were we on the same cruise, but we went to Maya Chan & took the 5:00 shuttle back 🤣 It was our first time at either place, but we will definitely go back the next time we go to Costa Maya. The food & drinks were amazing. The entire place was so relaxing & we loved that our palapa was big enough for all 6 of us. We were right by the wedding, too, so we were very near y’all. Isn’t that funny? 🤣

What a small world!!  We loved it and hope people aren’t afraid to book it because of the seaweed.
