Putting kids across the hall...at what age?

It really depends on your kids.  While "across the hall" isn't far...probably closer than they are in their own bedrooms at home, they need to be able to follow your rules about leaving the cabin, or letting in someone.

We cruised with two and then three, seperated in age by 2 and 4 years, we cruised more often when we were young but always did two cabins sometimes one inside and one outside sometimes both inside.  Me and one of the kids booked in one cabin and my wife and the other two booked in the other.  Once on ship we'd move the kids all three into the triple inside cabin, much like home, gave them a laynard with both our room keys, tucked them in every night, checked on them a few times, we were always up before them as well.

I think we started doing this when they were 4/6 ( the little one was always with us for the first couple cruises ) got our independence, they felt like home and loved having their "own cabin"
