Ray66 Posted August 8, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2019 Large cruise ships are to be banned from entering Venice's historic centre, the Italian government says. Ships weighing more than 1,000 tonnes will be rerouted away from certain waterways from September. Starting from next month, some liners will be forced to dock at the Fusina and Lombardia terminals away from the city centre. By the end of 2020, a third of all ships will be rerouted. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-49276730 Apart from any potential damage, these huge ships just look too big in central Venice. Rare MicCanberra Posted August 10, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2019 It is a shame for those that haven't had the opportunity to do it but it is best for the long term future of Venice.
Janet&Carl Posted August 12, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 12, 2019 With only a third being rerouted by the end of 2020 I doubt that it will make much difference in the near future. I am still hoping for another sail away from Venice. In my opinion it is the best sail away at sea.
