JollyMia Posted August 9, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2019 Have just read about P&O cancelling all Oceana cruises around the Gulf and Dubai from this October to at least March due to tensions in the area (Iran) would other cruise company's MSC,Marella,RCI possibly do the same? ducklite Posted August 9, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2019 Typically they play follow the leader. Given the heightening tensions, I think they'd be crazy to not cancel those sailings and/or ports.
CruiserBruce Posted August 9, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2019 Could they possibly do the same. Of course. Check their boards here on Cruise Critic. They may have already, or may be discussing it. Or altering routes for this reason.
paul929207 Posted August 9, 2019 #4 Share Posted August 9, 2019 Certainly a good chance other lines will follow suit. If cruises are not originating in the Persian Gulf area, a cruise line may be slower to cancel.
John Bull Posted August 9, 2019 #5 Share Posted August 9, 2019 (edited) P&O is a British cruise line - and Iran & Britain are playing silly games (intercepting tankers) at the moment. And with the Union Flag painted proudly on the bows of P&O ships they were always likely to be the first to cancel, as I posted on an earlier thread. I expect other British lines may do the same. And that might include Princess, which like P&O is a British subsidiary of Carnival Corp., and flies the Red Duster. Since Iran & the USA aren't bosom-buddies, the same may happen with US ships if the two presidents continue to wind each-other up. Of the major lines, the least likely to be affected is probably MSC which is an independent Italian line. But there are complications like port-of-registration, flags of convenience etc, way beyond JB's knowledge & mebbe others more-knowledgeable will chip in. And things can change in a heart-beat.
