7 Mile Beach

My wife and I have an upcoming cruise planned ~ one of our stops is Grand Cayman.  Any input on going to 7 Mile Beach would be appreciated.....have you been there?  Is it worth spending the day?  Would you plan the trip through the excursions ~ I think it is $49 and that included transportation there and back and an chair on the beach?  Or would you just get a taxi and head that direction?  How much is a taxi each way?  Is it easy to get a chair?   Would the taxi just drop you off at a public section of the beach?

So many questions...…...But I do appreciate your input.  😀

We usually go to Royal Palms, a beach club on 7 Mile Beach. We have gone by taxi or local 'bus' (more of a van than bus). There is a pool at Royal - for adults only. You can rent chairs and umbrellas and they have food/drinks. It's close to the port - you can see the ships from the beach.

Booking the excursion through the cruiseline guarantees you will get back to the ship on time. We generally prefer to book this way, and have a 7mile beach excursion booked through RCL for our S2S cruise. It's a beautiful beach.

7 Mile Beach is about 6 miles of great beach  There is a bus that for $2.50pp will drop you anywhere along it's length.  There are rentals of loungers/umbrellas all along the beach.  Restrooms are scattered about, and so is food/drink.  You do not need an excursion.  You are unlikely to want to stay ALL DAY, as the sun is quite hot and will burn you to a crisp, even with umbrellas!  A few hours will give you all the vitamin D you will need for a while!

When you're ready to head back, simply walk the few steps up to the road, and the next bus will stop!  So easy.

We don't travel to resorts or beaches to take a bus.  Not the way I want to spend a vacation.

Are the buses on the he main street near the docks where the shuttle boats drop guests off?

The bus terminus is next to the public library, two blocks in from the tender pier. You can flag a bus down anywhere along its route so going to the terminus is not required but is a good idea as the mini-buses are not large and you can be sure of getting on. The library has excellent free wifi. Just ask the librarian for the password. You will likely see ship crew there.
