FYI - Article about airline summer t-storm management

Lots of folks worry about winter weather to their cruise.  Perhaps there should be equal or greater concerns about summer weather.

 

FTA:  ...thunderstorm severity is tough to predict, said Carol Huegel, American’s managing director for systems integration and industry affairs. “A snowstorm or a hurricane, we can wrap our arms around,” Huegel said. “We can be ready. Things like thunderstorms are much harder for us to deal with. Inevitably, they last longer and hit harder than we expected.”

We get the craziest weather in the mid-Atlantic region.  For this area, severe weather is all year round.

As a regular transit passenger through DFW, it's not uncommon in the slightest for me to hit some pretty nasty delays, particularly in May/June, due to storms. Woof.

 

In general, snow can be pushed aside, and as long as runways/taxiways/tarmacs are kept clean and icing can be avoided, planes can come and go. Big snowstorms that stop air traffic may make national news, but are frankly still rare in the big scheme of things. Big thunderstorms that roll across big swathes of land happen on a very regular basis and also tend to hit where major hubs reside - Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Atlanta, DC, Denver. AND they can occur any time of the year, even winter.
