Viking Emergency Lighting

With the recent tragedy of a fire on a dive boat off the SoCal coast where 30+ people died, I’m  trying to remember what Viking Ocean has in the form of emergency lighting and directional signs. It may have been covered during the muster drill but I don’t recall it.

All passenger ships over 500 GT are required to have two forms of emergency lighting.  The first is emergency lighting powered from the emergency generator, which will come on if all other power fails.  This lighting is normally powered by the ship's generators, so they will be lit at all times, the power merely transfers to the emergency bus when necessary.  The second form of emergency lighting is battery powered lights, which will come on if the emergency lights fail.  These lights are normally not powered, and are typically another bulb hidden inside the normal lighting fixtures.  You can tell which are emergency lights by looking for small decals on/near the light fixtures that are either white squares with "E" in red, or round red dots.  With the dots, there may be one dot for emergency lights, and two dots for battery lights.

 

As for directional signs, per SOLAS, these are photo-luminescent green signs using international pictograms.
