Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted October 31, 2019 Author #106 Share Posted October 31, 2019 When we arrived at AEP on Sunday afternoon we found out that for a second time Premium Taxi did not show up to meet us after Emailing us that they would . We found out after returning home that they are closed on weekends ! We don't know why they didn't tell us that . We stayed at a Holiday Inn near EZE for our early morning flight to Santiago in the morning . It was a nice Holiday Inn but we did have a noisy park across the street with loud music and a helicopter practicing touch and go landings in the evening . At 5 in the morning it was raining while we waited for our ride and there was a ghostly image in the window photographing the rain in pool . The lounge at EZE is very nice and quite at that early hour in the morning . We were excited to be going to the cruise ship ! As we walked down the ramp to board the plane we had to make a dash in the rain to board a bus . After a 10 minute wait we drove to the plane and got pretty wet while waiting on the stairs for some slow moving people ahead of us to get settled . We were in the front row and watched the rain falling mainly in the plane until everyone boarded and we could close the door . The flight was a good one and we had a nice view of the Andes near Santiago . The first class flusher .
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted October 31, 2019 Author #107 Share Posted October 31, 2019 The cruise port is about 2 hours from Santiago And after surrendering our passport ( which you don't get back until just before the cruise ends ) we were put on a bus that took us to the ship . San Antonio is South America's largest cargo port . A video of busy Port San Antonio Starboard side : As soon as we left port we were in bumpy seas and it stayed that way all night long . Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted October 31, 2019 Author #108 Share Posted October 31, 2019 This was our third trip to Puerto Montt and so we kinda knew what we wanted to do . We would be using Claudio from Tours by locals as our guide .Unfortunately our favorite place to eat was closed ( We think that the ship's tour may a booked it ) but we trusted Claudio to take care of us . We knew that we were getting close when we saw the pilot boat . This is a tender Port . When we got to shore Claudio was waiting for us and we based on his weather information we decided to make a beeline to Osorno Volcano for an elusive clear shot of the peak . These were the best that we could take in our previous 2 visits and we hoped that the 3rd time would be the charm .

Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted November 1, 2019 Author #114 Share Posted November 1, 2019 Time to head out to lunch Where we wanted to eat lunch was in The Latitude 42 Restaurant at The Yan Kee Way Lodge. We first tried this place in 2007 and loved it. We didn't realize that the price of the lunch had been included with our tour so it was a pleasant surprise when we found out. The lodge has an interesting , eclectic décor. Unfortunately , the carved tree had seen 7 winters since our last visit and some of the beautiful images had lost their original splendor. The restaurant sits on the lake overlooking the Volcano And the food ! - first was a local seafood and chorizo soup. Delicious and HUGE. We asked the guide and driver why they were not eating and they said that they could never finish it all. They also informed us that time was becoming an issue. Taking a cue , we moved on to the main. All of the ingredients are caught or grown locally , and they taste that way . Next up was Salmon with berries and they were as good as any I ever have eaten before ! For wine I chose a tinto (red) of their choice. It was perfect but we were told by the guide that we had to go. We had finished our main but the chef was concerned that we would miss dessert so he came to our table to talk to us and show us a picture of the dessert on his smart phone. We thanked him for a great meal , and requested a box to go ( and being good Americans ). It seemed like a shame to put his work into a box but we enjoyed a special taste of Chile on the ship. Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted November 1, 2019 Author #116 Share Posted November 1, 2019 Because we couldn't go to Latitude 42 we headed back to " The city of the roses ", Puerto Varas , where our guide told us of a good place for lunch . It was raining when we arrived there so we went inside instead of the garden . We loved this fluffy bread , like a little pillow . Lunch for 2 Abalone , Giant Barnacles , Clams , Oysters and 3 kinds of King Crab !
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted November 2, 2019 Author #117 Share Posted November 2, 2019 Because of a mix up in Santiago we had not been able to purchase our 2 bottles of corkage free wine , and so we went for a walk to the local supermarket We bought red and a white name brand wine and 2 bottles of Pisco Sour for about $ 20 . We were charged $36 for a corkage fee for the wine . And after returning to the port A couple of parting shots from the telephoto : The church on a hill and the odd couple .
