RAYMORRA Posted June 16, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2004 Okay all you experienced cruisers out there...I need help. My husband won't fly so we have to drive to the port....we need to rent a van as there are 4 of us with lots of luggage....the only place to drop the rental car is a Houston Airport which from what I hear i quite aways from Galveston. Any suggestions on a "cost effective" way to get from the airport to the hotel in Galveston? I've asked my TA but because we're not flying we are pretty much on our own....does anyone know what a taxi would cost? The hotel does not offer a free shuttle..we plan on staying at the Hotel Galvez...I'm very open to suggestions here! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Francine Posted June 17, 2004 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Is it possible to drop it off at Hobby Airport? It is much closer to Galveston than Bush. It should also be a lot cheaper to get find a way to get there from Hobby. Fran

tawcat Posted June 17, 2004 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2004 you may want to call enterprise and inquire about offices in galveston. the last time we sailed out of there we herad some rumblings from other folks that the rental company wouldn't allow them to drop the car in galveston and that the office was closing due to lack of business. not sure like i said it was kinda eaves dropping. Randyk47 Posted June 17, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Hey Lou...if I see you and Jan standing along side the highway to Galveston with a bunch of bags I guess I can give you a ride. We have a Jeep Grand Cherokee with what I thought was a lot of room. Carey reminded me that we were going on a 12 day cruise and we were driving to the port. Kind of takes the weight limit out of the picture. We have 6 major pieces of luggage and God knows how many carry on size bags and she's wondering if that's enough! signman Posted June 17, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Hertz has an office in Galveston. When I arrive there on Galaxy November 1, they will be picking me up and I will then drive to New Orleans. There is no specific drop charge. I'm just paying a much higher daily rate. If you can drop your van in Houston, I would think you could also drop in Galveston. Randyk47 Posted June 17, 2004 #10 Share Posted June 17, 2004 Ah Lou....you asked the salient question but to the wrong person. It's not what I'm taking that is going to use so many bags. brn2crz Posted June 17, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 17, 2004 It is only recently that Hertz and Enterprise have started serving on Sundays. In the past,up till about 6 months or so,there were no car rental agencies available for Sunday.Things seem to be changing every month or so.You have been needing to call the Galveston offices directly,as the 800 number would still tell you there is no service.Enterprise has been making special drop off arrangements, and Hertz has begun to work with Sunday drop offs.I have heard of some really good deals, and both companies willing to do something. choirlady Posted July 26, 2004 #12 Share Posted July 26, 2004 Word of warning - depending on the time - there could be an issue getting service in their Galveston office. Make sure that you leave yourself enough room. Our car dealer uses Enterprise for its loaner car program and on busy afternoons and mornings, you can be there a while. Clipper T Posted February 7, 2005 #15 Share Posted February 7, 2005 Just rented from Enterprise, pick up at Hobby and dropped off in Galveston the next day, compact car $35.07. Made a reservation for car to be available on our arrival, only vehicle available was a Dodge SUV, total cost upon arrival Hobby $ 67.00. Must make reservation by calling Galvinston office direct, their 800 reservation line will not accept one way rentals. Drive to Hobby return, :45 min. Excellent service at both locations. Suggest dropping off baggage at ship in the A.M. Must tell them you are cruising, received a discount rate, good luck.
