Using WhatsApp voice calls on Sojourn

Simply, is this possible with the unlimited internet package?

 

Are they blocked or is the connection just not good enough?

 

My wife will want to keep in touch with her family.

Good question...  whatsapp (messaging and attachments) is quick and efficient on board normally, but I've never tried whatsapp voice call while on board.

 

I know that Seabourn blocks skype, voipstunt, etc.

I have used whats app for voice calls and it works but calls do drop out so it’s not perfect.

I've used WhatsApp on the Sojourn (slight crisis at home) and it worked perfectly and didn't drop out... we were halfway across the Indian Ocean at the time!    We didn't have unlimited internet so it did of course eat into the internet package we had.

Thank you for the answers. I was wondering whether to go for the phone calls Club benefit as a backup but maybe that won't be necessary.

Onboard now, using WhatsApp calling every day, 👍 ... only on the very odd occasion when internet was not available, could I not make these calls.

I was also surprised that FaceTime worked reasonably well -- voice quality was good and even the video wasn't too bad the one time I tried it. I thought in the past Seabourn blocked some of these high-bandwidth applications, but apparently not.

 

As with all things Internet, you're likely to get a higher quality of service if you can do your call at off-times when most people on the ship aren't online (e.g. off on tours, at dinner, late night/early morning).
