Room bidding?

Hello. I'm new to NCL and have been reading some past threads.

Can someone clarify how bidding on a room works? It appears that it's 30 days from sail date? We'd like to bid on the two family suite, we're currently in a balcony room. What's a 'reasonable' bid? Right now if we were to book that room outright, it would be around $2400 more than what we currently are booked at. Is there any chance that this room will even be available then? We may still upgrade this spring, depending on how some financial stuff works out for us.

Don’t bid. Just pay the $2400.

bidding opens 80 days prior to departure. Winning bids on suites are awarded week of cruise and as late as 48 hours prior to departure. A winning bid on a 2 BR may be more than $2400.

We've never won an online bid before but, we did call and get an upgrade from a suite to the owners suite for $300.00 on the Sky about ten days  out for a five day cruise. The guys in the suite next door told us they bid $800.00 online for the same suite. We started in a similar category. We booked last minute, about three weeks out, after cancelling a ten or eleven day February 2020 cruise from Hong Kong to Singapore.
