shelbird Posted February 18, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2020 On Reflection now and CD just announced the ship was notified of a demonstration outside the Port. All tours cancelled and stay onboard. Now more info. Dispute is between Taxi drivers and port. Now saying ok to get off and some tours will run. Maybe nachos and Margarita is a go after all. Not unusual. If on my own might stay within walking distance of the port. Since Mexico take a copy of your passport. Leave the original in your safe. Enjoy the Margarita! scrapcreator Posted February 20, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 20, 2020 (edited) We were very fortunate. We got off early to walk to the Native Choice Tour office. We saw lots of parked cabs (no drivers in the cabs) but no one stopped us. Others on that tour called Native Choice and said they had been stopped. Native Choice was great - once they were able to get through, they got them caught up with the tour. Fortunately, things had calmed down by the time we returned. The worst thing we dealt with was walking next to a bunch of drunk tourists, one of which poured the rest of her beer on my shoe, as they were heading back to one of the ships. We were wondering why the Edge had arrived early in Cozumel. Makes sense. Edited February 20, 2020 by scrapcreator
Swann5 Posted February 22, 2020 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2020 We were off the Reflection Tuesday as soon as it was cleared and before any announcements about any action by the taxi drivers. We were able to walk out of the port and meet our independent tour without incident and noticed a number of taxis waiting outside the gates, but that is not unusual so took no notice. Our tour operator bundled our groups into five taxis and sent us off to our beach club and we we returned via taxis without incident and did notice a large number of taxi drivers just outside the gates. We learned nothing about all the cancelled excursions or disruption until friends who stayed onboard told us. Hope they get this figured out to the satisfaction of all and the local economy continues to grow and benefit from all the tourism the ships bring in.
