Bacalar Lagoon

When I went to the Bacalar Lagoon, you could enter the water through either a dock with a ladder or from the beach.  I think the beach area may have been stone right where you entered, but it quickly turns to sand.  However, with that said, I went on the Carnival excursion that was tubing down the river and then to the lagoon so I don't know if the Mayan ruins excursion goes to a different spot.  The lagoon is relatively large.
