lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2020 Just realized I never reviewed my pre-birthday cruise that I took with hubby back in December 2019. After our family cruise last February, we wanted to do a short cruise with just the two of us. We didn't plan any excursions (in fact, we didn't even leave the ship in Freeport). This cruise was more about relaxing. So the review probably won't be that thrilling, but, as always, it will have plenty of pics! We stayed at the Best Western Cocoa Beach with my Best Western points for a pre night. The ladies at the front desk told us we had been upgraded to a king suite room. We also got a goodie bag with two waters and chocolate chip cookies. From our third floor balcony room we could see the pier entrance and some of the ocean/beach. The king suite was very spacious. The bathroom was small, though, and they only had a fabric shower curtain with no plastic liner. Also, the light switch was on the outside of the bathroom which was a little weird. When the AC kicked on it had a burning smell like heat even though it was air. And our phone kept making clicking noises like there was a message, but there were none so I ended up unplugging it This hotel is made up of many buildings. There is a beachfront tower, two "garden style" buildings behind that and then across the street was the suites building we stayed in which was behind a La Quinta. The lobby had its own separate building, too. We did have to pay for parking, but I don't think it was that much.

lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #5 Share Posted February 23, 2020 The breakfast area was quite large. We drove to Park Port Canaveral and the process was pretty seamless. It was only us and one other couple on the shuttle to the port. We got to the port a little before 10 a.m. and had to wait until 10 a.m. to enter the terminal building. We were in the priority line since we are platinum now. Once she took new pics of us since our passport pics are old, she told us to go up the escalator. At the top of the escalator there was a seating area for priority. At 11:05 a.m. they allowed us to board. We dropped our carryons in our room and got our S&S cards from our mailbox. We had a balcony room on Deck 6. It was our first true balcony. We had a balcony on the Vista, but it was a cove balcony style. My shirt matched the luggage mat!
lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #6 Share Posted February 23, 2020 We went up to Lido for a Guy's burger for DH an chicken tacos for me.
lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #7 Share Posted February 23, 2020 We had been on the Liberty before, back in 2013. She is showing her age, but is still a nice size ship. Back in the room, DH took a nap and I unpacked. I then went back to Lido for some cake. We hung out back in the room until muster. Muster was held outside on Deck 4 and the people behind us were moaning and complaining.
lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #8 Share Posted February 23, 2020 After muster, DH got some fries and we watched sailaway from our balcony.

lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #12 Share Posted February 23, 2020 Sailaway provided some great sunset pics. It ended up being the best sunset of the cruise.

lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #14 Share Posted February 23, 2020 We had dinner in the MDR. I tried the veggie lasagna for the first time and it wasn't bad.
lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #15 Share Posted February 23, 2020 We went to the tree lighting, which was cool because the lights danced to the music. After that, we went to the aft bar on Lido to get my first Mocha Chocolate Getaway of the cruise. We then went to Serenity and lounged in a clamshell. Then DH did Bingo and we watched the Welcome Aboard show. We then saw Michael Macy at the comedy show.

lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #17 Share Posted February 23, 2020 So the biggest issue with a balcony room is INCONSIDERATE neighbors. The ones to our left were constantly slamming their balcony door and talking very loudly at 7:30 a.m. I figured they were partiers and would sleep in, but apparently not. I also heard someone scream really loud. Since I was awake, I went out to my balcony and the neighbor to the right comes out in short shorts (I could see her reflection in the glass) and started slapping her thighs and saying "where's the sun?" I can't make this stuff up. I had cinnamon buns and honeydew for breakfast. I tried the guava passion fruit juice for the first time and it was delicious! I don't know why it took me 12 cruises to try it! I drank hot chocolate on the balcony, read for a bit and then attended the Make It with Michael's craft event.
lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #18 Share Posted February 23, 2020 The craft event was Christmas cards. A mother and daughter asked if they could sit with me. Her name was Amy and her daughter's name was Aurora. Aurora was on stage the night before at the Welcome Aboard show. After dropping my card off in the room, I looked around for DH, but I couldn't find him so I read on the balcony for a bit. On my search for DH, I did buy three Christmas cruise themed shirts for $28.
lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #19 Share Posted February 23, 2020 (edited) DH came back to the room and we went up to Lido together for lunch. He got a burger and I got a turkey sandwich on a pretzel bun. We took our food back to the room to eat. DH told me he saw the chocolate extravaganza so I had to go back up. lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #20 Share Posted February 23, 2020 (edited) I asked DH if he wanted to go to the Holiday Show with me and he said yes, but by the time it came he was asleep so I went by myself. It featured the Grinch, cruise director MarQ and the playlist cast. They also had the children from all the kids clubs involved. Guess who ended up sitting next to me? Amy and Aurora! After the show, I went back to the room and tried to take a nap, but it didn't work out too well since they were vacuuming the hallway and then DH flushed the toilet and it got stuck on suction. I called for the plumber and DH left to go walk around so I got stuck waiting for the plumber. The toilet actually unstuck itself right after I called, but I figured I'd tell the plumber about the slow draining shower. Well, he never came. I read in bed until DH came back. lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #21 Share Posted February 23, 2020 We dressed for elegant night and I made DH do one photo backdrop. He also took a picture of me in front of the Christmas tree and we did a selfie in front of the tree. We ate in the MDR, but skipped dessert since nothing looked appetizing. Something interesting they are doing now is asking you to order all three courses at once. This probably saves on time.
lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #22 Share Posted February 23, 2020 After dinner we listened to the violin trio and then hung out on Serenity in a clamshell. We then had dessert on Lido. I had a yummy key lime cake. Back in the room I saw that I got a free gift at Pixels and a $50 spa credit for my birthday from Carnival. That was cool since my actual birthday was the following week. They must do it if you cruise the month of your birthday. The Pixel gift ended up being an 8x10 of the ship. lovestocruise19 Posted February 23, 2020 Author #23 Share Posted February 23, 2020 We were going to attend two comedy shows, but DH fell alseep and when I woke him he said he didn't want to go. I read my book on the balcony until 10:30 p.m. and then went to bed. And then, the NEIGHBORS STRIKE AGAIN! At 2:17 a.m. I was rudely awakened by the LOUDEST neighbors we have ever had on a cruise hands down. They were talking (more like yelling) and talking and talking. I called guest services to see if I could make a noise complaint, but there was no option for talking to someone or talking to security. DH woke up and went out onto the balcony for a few minutes. This went on for half an hour. I pounded on the wall with my fist, but that did nothing. We tried to block it out and got back to sleep. Not sure what time it was (another hour or half hour?), but I heard some people leave the room. It was ridiculous! 😡
Bostwick girl Posted February 23, 2020 #24 Share Posted February 23, 2020 We were just ahead of you on the December 2 cruise. The ship was decorated so pretty, just loved it. This was about our 4th or 5th time on Liberty, it's a great ship! This cruise we just did an OV but the Bermuda cruise in September we had a balcony on Deck 8. This cruise ended up being a back to back, our first, our friend wanted to go, but couldn't until the Friday we were supposed to get off, so we just made it a back to back. Were you in the aft dining room? Our wait staff was really good, and our hostess Rico Rose was also. The best was our Maitre d, Aaron! Never had one who made it a point to go around the dining room and talk to people every night. He also had a little show every night where not only did the wait staff sing and dance, so did he, even dancing on the round table! He said he was working on singing, but not quite ready yet. The whole trip was great and happy to see you and DH enjoyed it too. Then to our surprise, our sons gave us another cruise on her this past January! Totally shocked us, and we enjoyed it just as well. I just booked yesterday for November 16, can't wait! Thanks for sharing your review, brings back good memories!

This was our second time on the Liberty. B2Bs are so much fun! We did a B2B on the Sunshine in 2017. We don't currently have one booked and it feels odd. We fell in love with cruising back in 2011 and have been on at least one cruise a year since.
