Mary Louise Posted March 17, 2020 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2020 Hi, I was given a RCCL gift certificate that was fairly large in value. I did give it to my TA to apply to OBC for my summer cruise. Right now we are very uncertain about going. Is there a way to get that gift certificate back, or once it is applied it is gone. Thank you ML

Mary Louise Posted March 22, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted March 22, 2020 I was told by my TA that the GC would be refunded to the original form of payment.
ARandomTraveler Posted March 22, 2020 #4 Share Posted March 22, 2020 It will be refunded to the original form of payment, so whoever gave you the gift certificate will get a refund. If you don’t use the entire credit on the cruise, the same thing will happen (the leftover balance will go back to the original form of payment). In an evil twist, if the original form of payment no longer exists (say, the credit or debit card number has changed or the person who gave the gift closed their account), royal Caribbean can’t be sure where the money will go or if it will ever make it back into anyone’s bank account, they simply “hope that the original banking institution will be able to issue a check and mail it to the address they have on file for the original payor.” At least this was the case when I had one to use. Thankfully I learned on these boards that once I was on the ship I could cash out my on board credit at the casino. I can’t remember if you had to buy chips with it and then cash them in, or if you could simply go up to the cashier’s window and ask for the cash outright. Unless the person who gave you the gift certificate will buy you a new one, you’re likely to lose the gift, unfortunately.
