  1. By the time you’re done touring the islands and get back on the ship, there’s not a ton of time left. You shower and go to dinner, then see a show or do trivia, go to karaoke or watch a poolside movie. Then go to bed and do it all over again. I know there are kids who don’t like spending time with their parents (or vice versa), but if you enjoy doing things together then those are all activities that can be done together and don’t have an age limit.

  3. I was going to say the same thing. I stopped trying to read it after the first few words and just skipped right past the posts with this font.
  4. One would assume a person paid for their cruise already, and any balance on your card is for other purchases. If you’re worried that you need to leave a balance on your card in order to receive the refund, you don’t. The credit card company will just cut you a check for anything that takes you below a $0 balance.
  5. I cancelled my drink packages March 24th. Refund showed up on my credit card 31 days later (23 business days).
  6. I was thinking the same thing. It seems like I’m reading about a lot more refunds from those of us who cancelled ourselves than I’m seeing from people who were on cancelled sailings. Who knows though. We just started hearing about an influx of refunds 2 days ago, so it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out. It seems like a lot of people are taking the FCC which might be why we haven’t heard as much about refunds for cancelled sailings. But maybe I’m just noticing those more because I’m surprised so many people are going that route instead of the cash route, so maybe I’m biased in what I notice.
  7. St Kitts: Depending on how physically active you are (or want to be), the Mt Liamuiga volcano hike is a unique option that we liked. We’ve also done an island tour there by negotiating with a taxi driver to take us to the main tourist spots, like the fort, the batik factory, the viewpoint where you can see the Caribbean and the Atlantic come together, and ended the day at the beach outside the Carambola Beach Club. In St Lucia there’s a great tour company called Cosol’s that runs a very professional operation that takes you all over the island. It will take up your entire day, with little to no time for shopping at the end, but you’ll see a lot of the island. St Lucia also has a lot of native grown spices, so if you do have a chance to shop, buy spices there. You can get a ziploc bag of vanilla beans for $2, a ziploc bag of fresh whole nutmeg for $2, a ziploc bag of saffron for $4 or $5. It’s so cheap there. Most of the islands get their spices from St Lucia, so by the time they get to another island they’ve been commercially packaged and sell for much more money. Antigua: Valley Church Beach. Clear blue water, nice relaxing place, but they do have jet skis for rent. Barbados: The Boatyard. It has the most crystal clear water, like a bathtub. It’s kind of a cliche beach bar, can be loud, can be crowded, but it’s fun and has the best, cleanest looking ocean I’ve ever seen. St Thomas: Been here twice, would probably stay on the ship next time. Underwhelming beaches, not much else to see or do here.

  9. All my refunds have now been received. I cancelled my June cruise as well as 2 drink packages on March 24th (1 day before final payment, and I had a refundable deposit). I was told I would get the refund in 7-10 days (didn’t ask if it was total days or business days). My credit card shows my refund as being posted on April 19th (26 total days after I cancelled, 18 business days), though it didn’t show up for me to see it until the end of today (Friday April 24th, 31 total days after I cancelled, 23 business days). The refund showed up in 4 unequal payments that don’t match up to the original amounts, but the total adds up. I made a claim on my cancel for any reason insurance for $2800 in airfare, received my 75% back in 17 total days (13 business days). Had another flight cancelled by American Airlines, refund processed in 22 days (16 business days). Insurance wins the refund game for me, but I’m satisfied with the amount of time it took to receive all my refunds, given I was prepared for a 60-90 day wait.
  10. They’re 2 different arguments. One is that the businesses are taking too long with refunds. I’m not arguing either side with that, I’m kind of neutral, realizing it’s an abnormal time to give a refund, but also recognizing there’s a backlog. The other argument is whether people who are in a bad financial position because they have to wait for their refund should accept responsibility or not. That’s the one I tend not to agree on. It’s just a personal viewpoint though, obviously not everyone agrees, but I don’t hear anyone giving a reasonable argument supporting any good reason why people who spent money they didn’t have shouldn’t have to accept responsibility for the financial position they’re in now.
  11. Yeah true. I get wrapped up in looking at cruise critic and I could definitely be doing other things with my time once I start getting annoyed, you’re right.
  12. Why should I not be allowed to participate in the conversation just because you don’t like my point of view on personal responsibility? I get it that people want what’s due, and nobody has told them they won’t get it. They’re just being told it will take a while, which people don’t like for a variety of reasons. Some of those reasons have to do with people not being able to afford to wait, and that’s where I do think it comes down to accountability. I expect my money back too, but I understand that under the circumstances, it might take a month or two (or three?).
  13. I have - I’ve got refunds coming to me as well. All delayed quite a bit and well past the dates they were promised to me. I can afford to wait for them though, so I’m not complaining.
