Booking Guarantee Question

I have never booked a "guarantee" cabin but am considering it. I was wondering if you receive your docs and are very displeased with the location of your cabin, is there any chance of changing it?

Also, can some of you share your past experiences with booking guarantee, both good and bad?

Your replies are greatly appreciated.

Booking a "guarantee" means that you will accept nothing less than what you book. For instance if you book an ocean view guarantee, you will not be in an inside. (Of course, I know there's gonna be somebody out there who's the exception:o ) I think you're pretty much taking your chances on exactly which cabin you'll get, and what you get is what you get.

Have only booked one guarantee. It was over a year before our cruise, booked through a TA, was upgraded to a balcony.

NEXT!

Never book a guarantee lower than what you can accept.....if you have to have a window don't book inside gty ..... book oceanview gty.

I have been lucky both times so far booked inside gty and got oceanview on one and now obstructed oceanview....but at least it will let light in the room.

It's a great way to save money but no, I don't think you can change cabins later unless you pay for the upgrade.

I booked a balcony guarantee recently which was a 8a and I foudn out last week that we have been upgraded to an 8d! So we are now on the Lido deck and close to all of the amenities.

If you want a specific cabin - choose a specific cabin. If you are not bothered and want the chance of an upgrade book guaranteed. As far as I can tell it just means you have the guaranteed room at that level and have the chance to be upgraded

Hope this helps

I'm so scared to book a guarantee. I've heard both praises (due to upgrades) and horror stories (completely obstructed views).

I love to be on port side, mid ship, so I tend to just pay the higher amount so I know exactly where I'm going to be.

I have booked inside guarantee twice. Once got an outside but on a low floor and the other time got inside but on the highest floor. We are booked again for inside guarantee on the Liberty for April so it will be interesting to see where we get. Personally, I don't see the point of paying a lot for a cabin you basically sleep and change clothes in. If, however, you are a person who thinks you will want to be in your cabin quite a bit, then don't book guarantee.

Well, you can always change to an assigned cabin but would probably have to pay the going rate for that cabin at the time you make the change. There also might not be much available at that time either. I do think I read here once that someone was able to change with no extra expense but I think that it was probably a rare exception.

You run a risk by booking a guarantee. Once you receive your documents, it may be too late to change. You're just a couple weeks away from sailing. If the ship is sold out, you're stuck with the cabin. You can always ask.

I've booked a guarantee only twice. The first time we booked fairly close to the cruise date for a 4-person cabin. We got a 4A. The second time I booked a 1A for just two of us and was upgraded to 4C. I wasn't crazy about the location - pretty noisy.

For some the location doesn't matter. They may be on deck getting the sun or in the casino. I'm a little picky on my cabin. I love the peace of a private balcony. I prefer to book midship on one of the lower decks with balconies. I don't want to be above the disco or any other noisy public room. Since it matters to me, I book the specific cabin.

Good luck.

If you feel that you will get a cabin you dont want, then dont book guarantee, I always book guarantee because I like to save and also it adds to the excitement of booking and waiting to see if you hit the lottery by getting that suite etc. But again if youre going to get pissed off due to the cabin you got, then again select your cabin and dont go guarantee.

Its all how you view things, to me the Obstructed view cabins are Great coming from a Cat. 1a or 4a inside :)

We usually book a low inside GTY, and then when our assignment comes we are usually a couple of categories higher than what we paid for. On insides, I don't think location matters at all, and if you get a window, that's better, even if it is obstructed. Others may be motion/noise/location sensitive, we aren't.

When we book a balcony, we pick a specific balcony, so that we know what kind of view we can count on.

Hi,

we booked an inside 4A for our kids and they were upgraded to a 7A partial obstruction. On the same cruise, we booked a 7A and got upgraded to an 8G, an extended balc. We were very pleased, but would have been satisfied with the gty cabins that we booked. We have been in the front and the middle of the ship, we were ok with both.

I prefer insides because the vampire in me likes my room dark. I think a balcony may be worth the extra $$ but not for just a simple window. I am fine booking inside guarantee, and will be happy if I get inside but like the "possibility" of getting something "different". It adds a bit to the excitement of the cruise. Must be the gambler in me.

So far I have booked 2 GUAR cabins, and one was assigned a great location on the lido deck. The other has yet to be assigned. I would much rather be inside on the lido than outside on riveria or main decks - due to the distance from where I will be most of the time - on the lido deck.

I'd feel differently if I were assigned a cabin on the lowest deck, near the back, where the engine vibration can be felt. But with a GUAR, I think they tend to place you on higher decks, in the same category if possible.

Some get upgraded to a higher category, but I think most are only upgraded to a higher deck.

We have booked a 1A guarantee and have always been happy with the upgrades. We are not in the room all that much except to get ready to go somewhere. Again it you want something specific like a large window/balcony book it don't rely on the upgrade.

My Oct cruise was a 1a, got upgraded to a 6a :)

Congrats on the upgrade! I finally officially booked mine today at a local cruise show. I was ready to try the guarantee but out of 4 cabins I needed 3 triples and they said I couldn't book them as guarantees that I needed assigned cabins. I did get a 2 category upgrade though. :)

Thanks to everyone for their input.

Hey i was at that cruise show today too!!! However, they wanted 300 more then what i previously got a quote for from another agency. They told me i could bring in my paperwork and they would match it. But what good is them just matching it they didnt offer me anything different... Oh well small world that we are both there... I didnt stay for the free cruise give away so they probably called my name

Their rates matched the best rates that had gotten from Carnival and other TA's and I got the 2 Category upgrade on top of their rates and was able to book our 4 cabins side by side.

LOL They probably called my name right after yours!

We just booked a guarantee balcony cabin for a sail date of 3-25-06, when do you find out your cabin # ?

Go to fun pass, fill in the cruise info for yourself and any other, once its complete, go to gift ordering, forget what its called, fake oredr something and if they have given an assignment u will c it there. But you can only do it from the fun pass complete page
