noreenlar Posted February 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2006 We are planning a trip on Silver Sea Cruise Line in Nov.2006. We would like to purchase trip cancellation insurance but understand that some are no good. We would appreciate any help that anyone could render. kitty9 Posted February 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2006 Just make sure that whatever you need covered by insurance, is covered by the policy you purchase. You never want to purchase the insurance offered by the cruise line---always purchase a third party insurance like Travel Guard or Access America. If you have pre-existing conditions (anything you've been treated for or taken medication for within 180 days of your cruise) you have to purchase the insurance withing 10 to 14 days of making the deposit. If you didn't purchase insurance at that time, and you have a pre-existing condition, there are policies that will cover those, but it's much more expensive than if you had purchased the insurance at the time of booking your trip. You will need the following coverages: trip cancellation, trip interruption, medical expenses, medical evacuation (it can cost upwards of $30,000 to have emergency evacuation off a ship for medical emergencies), lost luggage. Rare Keith1010 Posted February 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2006 A good web site to go to is insuremytrip.com There is an area where you can provide some data (eg., cost of the trip, dates of trip, ages of passnger's, etc) and it will provide pricing for the various insurance carriers. In addition, the web site allows you to easily compare each policy which I find very useful. Another good company to consider is travelexinsurance. It is one of the ones listed on this site. I have used them for a couple of recent cruises. They are one of the ones where if you had a medical claim, they would be treated as the primary carrier meaning that you could just fille with them first rather than first filing with your own health insuance provider. Anyhow, I would recommend go to insuremytrip.com first and then click on quotes. Keith

Krazy Kruizers Posted February 10, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 10, 2006 Just for the record - we have used Access America for years. Had to make a claim once - no problems.
